7/4 Yellows, albies, vessel assist then more albies 302

Left for the Salvador knoll at 3:30, fished the first two paddies for 5 yellows, then trolled around until my Ignition coil went dead (10am), called vessel assist. While waiting for 3 hours we land a nice albie, and hook a nice Mako but he broke off. Vessel Assist came out to me towing a boat with the same engine as I so I asked the skipper (Maverick) if he'd sell me the coil. No problem, got the coil, installed in minutes and off we went. went to the 302, found a nice 1 degree temp break at 32 26.6 117 38.4. Soon we saw crashing birds and jumpers, got a quad hookup but only landed 1. (yours truly ) 25lbs.They swarmed the boat but WE HAD NO MORE BAIT it was 5 30 so we called it a day. They bit a bright tuna clone, blk/prpl daisey chain, blk/prpl feather and white/pink feather/

Five yellow to 20lbs (used a scale) and two 24lb albies.

Water was nice , no wind WOT everywhere I wanted to go. Nice to be fishing for albies in middle of summer. Every paddie we hit was loaded with yellows, slow trolling produced instant hookups. All paddies had deep meter marks but couldnt get them to play.

Special props to Maverick and his crew for removing his coil, i know it was a pain in the ass getting that rusty bolt loose. You saved my ass bigtime! its almost 9pm and he's still prolly getting towed in.

Hope this helps.

Exactly!!! Way to think it out. Saved yourself a slow tow home and managed to score a few despite the probs.

Mad props to you.

Ya , it woulda been a daisey chain of boats. We were hoping for the back of the line so we could troll .

I guess that was my karma making a full circle

Re: Yellows, albies, vessel assist then more albies

Glab we were able to help you out with the coil (did not need it at the time). Our alternator took a big dive on us and we were rescued by the crew of the T-Bone 47 miles out. Why didn't you tell me about the large Mako that you hooked while I was floundering in the water trying to tie the tow rope to the stern cleats? Just kidding it was nice getting wet, glad the coil worked out and you caught more fish. We eventually made it back to SI at 8:30 and home at 10:15. We did get to see the various fireworks shows on the way home to O.C.

It really is quite miraculous that a boat with the same engine comes by out in the middle of nowhere that salvages the day when you really think about it.

I'll take miraculous out in the middle of the ocean. In fact I'll take miraculous anytime I'm in a tight jam.

Great story!!
