We fished the Western Outdoor News, Tuna / Yellowtail Tourney in Ensenada on my buddy Brads new sweet 48' Riviera "MY TURN" and we kicked some Tuna and Yellowtail Ass!!
Traveled most of the night to just outside the 213. Our plan was to put the jigs out but found a big Paddy so we thought we would go for a few Yellowtail first. I'm fishing a sliding egg sinker to go deep and get the 1st hookup for the day. Put on a 23lb+ big paddy yellow to start the tourney off right, my buddy Steve gets hooked up and we put another Yellow on about 14lbs.
No body else home so we put the trollers out and 5 minutes later start putting decent Albacore on board. By 8:00 am we are close to limits and just needed a few big Tuna. By 9:00 we have limits on the albacore up to 26.5 lbs and think we have a good shot for both categories and overall.
We start trolling for home and look for more patties and hopefully a big Bluefin but no more luck. Started getting a bit rough so we headed for home. Booyaa called in for a little help breaking the waves for the 50 plus mile ride home and we obliged and watched them in our wake, toasting them with a few rum and cokes. They came in just under us for a third place finish. These guys are always a tough competitor.
We ended winning the Jackpot for biggest Yellowtail and 2nd overall with a 3 fish weight of 77.95lbs, 1st place came in at 80.62lbs. We heard one team got a big 39lb Bluefin DQed from mutilation when it was in his fish hold, so the top tuna came in at 31.80lbs.
We would of liked to take 1st but we sure will settle for 2nd and of course the money!!!
Albacore are definately here, hopefully they will stick around for a bit without the seiners getting too many!
