SCI..ready to go WFO!!!

Took the BlackJack out Sat night, tank full of Candyand in a pretty stiff wind heading towards SCI....bumpy ride so we decided to be true "private boaters" and head to the backside of CAT for a BBQ of Carne Asada and try for some WSB...backside of CAT was relatively calm, quite a few squidders but pretty much quiet alongside the backside...No luck on WSB, but the bbq was tasty and the wind died down...off to SCI...

The island was closed until 5 am so we slowly headed out to the backside where all the sporties were..not much luck, rough weather and uphill current coupled with a 3.5 degree temp drop in the water, so we decided to go for some fish in the kelp by horseshoe cove...good call as we picked a ton of Calicos, a Yellowtail and CK hooked a monster WSB or Yellowtail, which wrapped itself in 1/2 dozen kelps and to top it off, I RAN OVER THE LINE, SNAPPED IT OFF and was almost thrown off my own boat...gotta take boating w/fish 101 ....the final tally was some large Calicos (released) and a firecracker...

Wind picked up, went to front side area and around 11:30 the isle basically erupted...the fish would not TOUCH THE SQUID as there were fish caught all over on 'dines as all we could pick up were the calicos..which was a real steady pick...

Toronado was nailing the fish as was the PV, so evey spotie came over and had some fun in the action...we ended up getting a monster on a blu/white jig and hooked some bigger models that made its way into the kelp, but we did not have as much luck as the sporties w/dines...weird???????

So, all in all, a great day, weather was decent but fishing pretty much was keeping you busy all day..

pics to follow....

Jack, not very often the candy bait gets beat by dines. Glad you hung at least one on the boat. You say frontside, east end? Purse Seine and White rock have been producing lately.

Matt, ya I've noticed that SCI Yellowtail's love the dines or scrabbled egg 6xjr iron no problemo.

Cat. Yellowtail's will eat the squid with a vengance..... why???? I don't freaking know,,,,,,,,,, damn fish!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you guys had a pretty good day on the H2O, kelp and big fish..... it's a love hate relationship!

we were right on Purseine rock at about 15 fathoms or so...fish broke everywhere...

made no difference where you were, just be w/in the vicinty and the fish would work their way in and out of spots...

At least you fished and caught...and not just fished. Looks like some good meat to be had there. It is still early in the season. Congrats on some fish.

I heard CK had a little one. Nice job, don't worry about breaking off Dans fish, he should have got it out on his own. Tough luck that they wanted the fin bait. I'm glad to hear you're getting the ins and outs of the boat down. I'm ready when you need crew.

Whoa! You guys caught fish??? Nice life size pictorial too! Matt I know this is the first time you have had a picture taken with an actual fish... Try to smile next time. Gotta work on that so in a few years when you catch another one you are ready for the picture .
