May 1 302 Stripe Report

Launched from SI around 5:00 and headed to the Bro's for bait with Mike with Yellowtail and Albacore dancing in our heads.

Was the 4th one in line for bait. While waiting I heard something by the bait tank that was not right. Had Mike have a look to find out the exit hose was torn off the tank and water was spilling 1/2 on the deck and 1/2 in the transome.

We decide to take 1/2 a scoop instead of a full and manually regulate the water in the tank. The plan generally worked, but at times we would forget to add water into the tank and the water level will get to 3 - 4". In the end, we would not need the bait.

Stopped on approx. 7 - 10 paddies between the 9 and 302. All were empty. Continued West, South and North with the same results. Water was a deep blue and by my gauge 63.1 to 63.5 deg. all day. Must of stopped on over 20 paddies with over 1/2 of them nice sized brush (bath tub or bigger). I did not meter any bait or fish on all paddies.

Worked the area with Lucky Charm. It was nice talking and communicating. Last I heard, he was finding the same results. However, he was metering 61 deg.

Ended the day in the PL kep where Mike pulled in 1 nice sport coat.

Boat ran great. Now I need to figuare out how to fix the bait tank.

Don't feel bad Bill, I left the slip at 9 am No bait trip. Stopped outside the point for a couple log barries released and continued on. I think that I talked to you as I was gettin in the area. Raspy Larengitis voice kept kept me off the radio. I worked North of the 302 and out 6 miles then north 6 miles and back to the barn for 1 small Yellowtail on the Iron, realeased. Nice water and Patties just no fish. There were three guys in a Skiff kinda following me from patty to patty I think they said their name RAPPALA? Anyways these guys were in wetsuits and were courteous as they aproached an asked before jumping the patty where I got the one fish. They later confirmed my suspisions. No bait and no fish. I guess that I shoulda hung a Left.

I was out in the same area on Sat. Started at the 9 and out to the 302 then into the islands for the late afternoon. As you saw, alot of paddies with no one home. The temp was good and the water looked pretty good but no love from the fish. It is still early and just being out there is great. This summer is going to be awesome!
