News COWABUNGA!! 25 lb COW COD at Colnett

Haven't seen a beast like this one in years! My son nailed a 25 lb. Cow Cod at Punta Colnett on the Apollo's 1.5 day trip. He was using a one pound slab from a horse mackeral I had caught earlier in the morning. We were only fishing in 300 feet of water when he caught it, what a toad! The mouth of that thing was monsterous, check out the photo of an 8 lb. ling we stuck in it's mouth.

No yellows for our boat unfortunately. When we arrive at 8:15 am, there were 3 boats working the high spot - the Vagabound, the Pacific Voyager, and the Indian. Word is the Pac Voyager caught 3, but they didn't stay long. We worked the yo yo iron for 1 1/2 hour for nothing before heading to the rockfish areas.

Boat limits for all, once again the quality of the reds were excellent. We did well on the black jax jigs, and the usual sardines and strips of cut rockfish produced too. The seal lions were a bit aggressive, with a few fish lost to them on the way up. On the last photo you'll notice a section of tail missing from this red, the sea lion lost the tug of war for once.

Nice cow!

BTW - I'm sure that ling weighed 18 lbs like a couple others I've seen posted lately.

Thanks for the report & pics, Don. Nice pics! Congrats! Supa, as a well known friend of mine would say! Reminds me of the days when we use to catch them that big on the Osborn too many years ago. Seaya!
