Left the Marina Coral pretty late as my crew needed Mexican fishing licenses. Along for the ride were Ensenada locals Ruben and Victor. Plan was to stay local due to the late start but after picking up a load of mini macks from Mike at Ensenada bait with a report of yellows outside the Banda Bank along with unbelievable conditions our decision to make a last offshore run was easy. Here is what we were up against the entire day:
Well paddies were pretty plentiful inshore but the water was off color so I decided to head for the Lower 500. Water temps rose to above 65 degrees with a beautiful blue color:
Trollers went in 6 miles short of the 500 and 3 miles later we run into our only paddy within 15 miles of the 500. As we trolled past it a school yellows charged the boat and found the jigs and 2 of the 3 trollers were hit. Victor had never fished offshore before and lost his hookup so I grabbed his rod and started cranking fast and was picked up again and handed it back to him. 10 minutes later we pick up a late November alby:
Well we ended up with 4 yellows and the lone albacore and that was it. We trolled and trolled and with super great paddy spotting conditions did not see another paddy the rest of the day until we were within 10 miles of Punta Banda. November offshore, ice cold beers, great music and the most unbelievable conditions with some cool new friends it just doesn’t get any better. Looking to head out again on Friday or Saturday. The BBQ is on today at Casa Louie south:
