Sat. report

Well had to get wet one last time. left out of M.B about 7 a.m with a full scoop. Headed towards the upper nine and found a pod of ponies a few miles shy. Worked them for awhile ..fished top, drop down, trolled through them and nothing. Kept moving west along that imaginary line sinnce my 9 y.o didnt have a mex. permit.(next year he will have one.)Around the nine we saw the most freaking kelp ever. definately from the winds. it was a joke.soon as we put out the trolls we see kelp.reel them in work the patty for 10-15 min. then out goes the trolls and a min. later more kelp reel in and repeat...for about two hours, got burnt-out of that so relled in trolls and made way towards the 182 but patties everywhere . What to do can't stop at all of them rite?......wrong we did. While on a patty made a call out to anyone fishing the 182 area. A skipper replied from a couple miles west of the u.9 with a spooled marlin on a stop in the ponies but no tuna .But the thoughts of marlin kept tail-dancing in my head . it was past noon so we decided to head back towards the 9 looking for those dam ponies but the abundance of kelp made it hard to cover any water. At a stop i saw a blue shark aproach the boat and turned away then a sec. later my pal Sharky's pole goes bendo.HE landed and released a 50-60 # blue shark.Shortly after packed up headed in and called it a season. I would like to thank all of you that report this has been one hell of a season...got my first dodo (a bull and several cows) learned how to work the porp. for tunas, few nice yellas and some skippy's all in all my best season yet........THANKS ......see ya all in spring 09' ...did somebody say white sea bass at cat. in apr/may?........

Sounds like a good day on the water...any day without an equipment malfunction or medical emergency I consider to be a good day...sounds like you worked the kelps pretty good. When there ar ethat many or if they are real small I usually troll around them one lap then decide if it looks worth stopping on it...I know I pass up some fish this way but old habits die hard...Apollo out

Timing

This is the wrong time to throw in the towel. Pretty good water temps still. Some of the best yellowtail fishing can be had locally all the way into December. With Albie still hanging around it's way too early to stop.
