9/6/08 Rough waters, no fish on board, marlin hookup at the 9

Went out with pops and the bro to the 9 and hoped to pull in some yellowfin again, but we couldn't find the right porpoise. We found some great big pieces of kelp, but no one was home until we found one huge one. We fished it for a while 3rd drift i hooked into a dodo that spit the hook while jumping. 2 passes later my brother hooks into something that wasn't moving much just a dead wieght. He turns it and starts to bring it in. We think it's a shark. Turns out to be a striped marlin. The thing swims right under the boat and then decides he wants to go and starts zinging out line and jumping out all over the place. We think it was about 150# range on the marlin. Mind you my brother is using a pole w/ 30# test and a rod rated from 10-30#. He's getting close to getting spooled so we try to fire up the boat and the boat is not having it. Pump the ball choke the enguine and NOTHING! Finally the line snapps and what do you know the enguine fires up. It's like we were cursed out there. No dodo, no tuna, no marlin, and we got our asses kicked coming home! Tough day for us hope others did well.

Thanks for the report. Very cool to see the marlin under the boat and jumping I bet.

I feel your pain on loosing the marlin, last Wednesday I was fishing a patty just inside the 267 and ended up in a battle with a marlin. Get this, I was fishing 12 lb on a shimano citica with a sardine. I too thought it was a shark but after an hour I finally saw him and worked my but off for another 40 min, only to have my knot fail at the hook. Oh well it was 1 hour 40 min of fun

it wasn't in the title at first. I added it on an edit. Oh to make matters worse on the day out i videos the whole marlin fight. Got home to watch the vid and it's a blue screen on the cam. Either the heads are too wrecked on the vid cam to replay the footy or it didn't record! SHIT!!!
