8/3-Dodos Bite everything, and Yuppies just Bite!!

Got to the 425 at 5:30, Jigs in and 5 minutes later Were on a 20+ Dodo, a little bait and another hour and weve boated 3(all 15+), another jig stike(miss) shortly after, and we boat 2 more around 8lbs(released) at a near by paddy(loaded with Dodo Dinks). And were off again west to the 371, and around 11:00 we find a nice paddy 3 miles shy of the 371, a 20+ YellowFin and a small Dodo came on the first drift....

And then nothing... I mean nothing happened when we turned the key. Both Batteries are dead, Radio is crap, and were Dead on the Water 3 miles SWW of the 371.

Well luckily we were able to hail a nearby 24' or 26' Parker w/ some real nice fellers to come to our assistance. I would like to thank these astute, collegiate, cavaliers of the sea, for providing us with the most minimal amount of help that some ocean going "boaters" could provide a vessel of PB Anglers in our situation.

Although they could not take 10 minutes to swap a battery with us to start our boat, because they had "no tools"(I told them we had "tools", but If I had a 60,000 dollar boat maybe I wouldn't want to get my hands dirty either). They did ask us if we had water...( yeah and a bunch of F'n beer too, but even the coldest Coors yellow bellies don't start boats). Then they hung around (and fished our Paddie, while all our bait began sun-bathing their bellies), and later informed us that vessel assist was on it's way(and that the Paddie had dried up... well thanks for the consolation), and that they would be in our proximity soon(like in 2+ hours).

I would also like to inform our "Heroes of the Cobalt Desert" that after an hour of aimless drifting, we were able to hail a nearby boat on course with us(the first we had tried), and that they ("Perseverance") were able to get us started in minutes by lending us a battery for just seconds and even leave with a small wad of cash (at our request.)....

In all honesty, Thank You to the crew and skipper of "Perseverance". It's guys like you who make fishing enjoyable. We even got to troll by a couple of Dorado loaded patties on the way home and have time to Bar-B-Q with friends. Thanks for saving the day!!

Sucks they didn't help. I wouldn't do that to a stranded boater. Karma's a bitch.

On the C/C my son and I had we kept a spare charged battery and jumper cables in the bow locker.

Saved our day a couple times.

I just don't turn the motor off. That being said, ya think they could have helped a little more with a battery swap.

Like he said, don't shut down. Also, know your boat. Twice this season I've had small wires break from their ring eye fittings on the alternator causing the batteries to just drain. I could tell by the voltage meter and the shrinking screen on the CRT Furuno 582. I knew not to shut down the diesel and to raise the outdrive at the ramp while the engine was running. Had to jump start the engine at home just to flush it.

Cool

What was the name of the boat who left you adrift. I'd love to find out. Even more I'd love to ram the bastards

Good advise. I have one on my boat. Never had to use it myself, but have helped a couple other boaters like yourself. I also have a hand held radio on board, change the batteries every three months, and at the same time I recharge my jumper box.

Sorry you ran into such asses. At least they had the decency to call Vessel Assist. Did you notice their boat name. Might want to send them a Candy Gram.
