Arrived on the U500 just before day break and put them in and began trolling. No signs, moved onto the 1010 trench and found Bounty Hunter. Picked him up and was told no luck. Bob Vanian overheard our conversation and called me on 72. He said that Yellow Fin Tuna were caught the day before on the 239. Picked them up and ran 17 miles and put in my hot "Carrot Top" spread with 2 7 Strand Pro-Series marlin luma glows on the outside longs. Shortly at 2:30 p.m. a double goes off and we boat 2 6 pound Yellow Fin Tuna. Put them back in and travelled to 31.33/117.17 where a quad went off and we boated all 4 for Gail and I and our marinero Oscar helping out on the deck. Travelled to 31.33/117.14 where a much more powerful jig strike went off that nearly knocked me off my chair. It was the middle port line (I troll 7 jigs) and my favorite 7Strand 1210C in "Carrot Top." The Strike was explosive with water everywhere and the marlin began jumping immediately to the starboard and then to the port and then charged the boat when I hung a left and had Gail take the rod to the bow from that side and I followed our Berkley Hi-Test 50# in Hi-Vis Green. I mention this because I have fallen in love with this hi-vis line with fast moving game fish as I can see this line very clearly from the wheel in all directions and sun light. This fish never stopped jumping and then diving and then jumped right in front of our faces for more. Oscar missed the first gaff and cut his dorsal which freaked both of us out and a new game began with one more miss on a body shot and finally secured and Gail put her rod in a holder on the bow and took a second shot as the first one is coming loose from a wild fish. Her shot with a straight cane pole comes out and I see the gaff floating. Ran downstairs from the wheel and gaffed the gaff and pulled it's tail out of the water whereby all 3 of us walked it down to the step. Oscar is an experienced Cabo deckhand and immediately called it a Blue. Vanian called Grossbeck and with the bronze body color hi lateral and the dorsal being shorter as well as his bill we concluded it was a blue. Next off to Ensenada Harbor at Botes Juanitos where we were met by a crowd at 9:00 p.m. after running in in the dark. Several Captains ID'd it as a blue and we then ran it over to Mike's since the scale was locked up at the fish market. Mike said that Julio is the resident expert and Julio declared it a Blue Marlin. Mike hauled it up and we weighed it on his hanging scale at 173 pounds. It was cut up on his boxes and bagged. Big chunk to Mike and Julio and back to the slip and The Park by 11:00 p.m. Next day, a well known Cabo Captain (Pancho McCleesh) came over and took one look at the pink meat and declared the meat being from a Blue. It is lighter in color and smoother in texture and with 6 couples over for a dinner party Saturday night it was sashimi and poki time with Marina Guards jumping in for a share Summary: The 295 area had miles of small squid on my meter with large bait balls. We pulled one of them out of the stomach of a tuna. The marlin had a 3' snake in it's stomach. Tons of food in that area until Saturday when it all disappeared and my buds did very poorly Saturday and Sunday when I went bass fishing at my bud Grander's secret spot and caught my bass on a double Gulp shrimp sex mount (two facing each other) on a single hook. Maybe this Friday on the chute at the L500 for working further South as North shut off. Good fishermen out of Marina Coral returned with one fish per boat. Temp breaks are good to know and the Terrafins were right on the money with every break where Jeff's service showed me. My success was due to having many good friends who are in the sport. Grilled Blue Marlin belly is close to heaven as along with more Poki, sashimi and flash grilled Ahi we're living the life. Cold belly on a bagel with cream cheese for brkfst. I know there are some large marlin out there now with confirming reports on a seen grander with 4 jumps and a couple 200 pounders boated. Troll lures that are smaller than the large marlin jigs but larger than albacore lures would be my suggestion and the 1210C is a perfect choice. The 150 pound leader took a beating and the crimped Hawiian loop knot on the terminal end was cinched tight to the eye of the hook. He was chewing on the leader the whole time and he was hooked inside the mouth as he didn't whack the lure.......he swallowed it. Instant burn. 73 degree water, we took her in 20 minutes.

Reason: "bronze body color"

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
