| 8/7 Albies Southwest of the 302
Went out as deckhand on the Voodoo with PapaJ and another captain...
Seems the owner of the boat had the wrong dates for his charter and so no crew. Last minute call to fish a 70 foot Elliot, I'm going.
Left Monday night and cleared the bait barge at around 11 PM. By midnight it was evident that it was going to be a rough ride out to the East Butterfly even on that boat. Seas were 8 foot plus with a short interval. White caps all night.
Trolled around the Butterfly all morning for nada. Kelps were all dry and the water was 65. Started heading back in shore since reports from the Knoll and the 267 (?) were positive. About 10 miles off of the 302 we get our first fish, Albie decent size like 25#s. Strikes all the way up towards the 302 in 67 degree water with a couple of 35#'ers thrown in. Farmed one Yellow Fin Tuna and then stopped on a paddy for 5 Yellowtail. Oh yeah, the hot color was BP with the white head.
The guys fishing were pretty cool and had a good time for the most part when not puking, the owner was with us too. The boat is nice and I would recommend it since it's so clean and spacious for a 6 pack.
So we cleaned fish, the boat, and the gear. I realized that I'm not cut out to be a full time deck hand. That shit is hard work, but I did get paid to go fishing. No pics since I was on deck almost the whole time.
The Albies are here, hope the weather lays down.
