| FOR WHAT ITS WORTH Last week it would seem that the albacore had made its loop and is now on its return trip into US waters. I know everyone is all giddy like school girls over catching albacore, HOWEVER, the time has come to gear up and go deep. Several nice spots have been seen, where as the seiners have scattered (which is nice for PBers) the schools of BTF, it seems that in doing so the albacore that were downbelow have mixed in with the Blue Fin Tuna. In which case makes it pretty fucking hard to wrap for a seiner, thats the good news. Its gets even better, 30 to 50 pound Blue Fin Tuna have taken a place under the albacore, schools seen on the 302 and in general area are all showing the same. It would seem that after this weekend, stories of ZING POW are in order. Outside the line, which is 200 miles reports of jig boats still having a field day jigging albacore, some boats reporting as much as 400 fish aday for a crew of 3. Thats good fucking fishing right there. A few U.S. boats fishing outside the line west of the loop. So, it would seem that in this case there is another body of fish that is/can/maybe move inside and towards us. Fish reports on albacore from the north are strong, as for the market prices on albacore, with the push of fish from the north, the price is dropping, bigger, fatter fish from the north have driven the price down for the guys from the south welcome to the world of commerical fishing. A spot of Blue Fin Tuna was seen this week on the nine, also scattered small spots of jumpers seen on and around the 60, NO BIG BODY SEEN, just scattered fish. did spot several swordies in general area. Also scattered jumpers seen, between PL and San Clem Is with terns working current breaks. Its all still here, and its not anywhere near and its not anywhere close to being over, for whatever thats worth to ya. Been saying it all season GO DEEP, toss ones and 2, have a great time and be safe.... |
