Albies: Go South, go Long, or stay home.

Hey:

Just got back from 10 hours of trolling from the border to the 182 to most of the way to the 181 and back. Ninety six lumpy, windy miles...

FOR NOTHING!

Bupkis!

Zip!

Nada!

Didn’t see one fish caught all day--but lots on the meter. Water was rough all day too.

The fleet was S of the 43, but I didn’t hear em catching much. The people who were catching were fishing the 226 (224), the 302 and the 371. They were fishing ity bity jetheads.

I tried to break the Trailer Trash's tuna cherry, but all I got was blueballs .

Hey Kurt,
I think we might have been out there trolling near the 181 with you. Do you remember seeing a blue hulled sea ray flybridge yesterday?

We launched at Dana at 4:30am. I had a feeling it was gonna be one of those
"you should have been here 2 days ago" days. We ran all the way to the 209, kept going to the ridge and trolled down the ridge thru the 181 and probably half way to the 182 before turning back. We called it a day at 10am.

As if launching on a Friday wasn't bad luck enuff--Friday the 13th--eh

We launched from Dana before 0600, returning at almost 1800. Not sure if we saw you.

Boy, I really wanted to put Andre (Heymon) on a tuna. Lal and I had caught 13 on Tuesday so I had had my fix, but nooooooooooo, the freeking fish just lay beneath the meter, giving great marks as they flipped us off.

We heard the fleet was at the 43, but it just wasn't worth it in that washing machine snot.

Re: Albies: Go South, go Long, or stay home.

I know what you mean about the washing machine. There was some big swells that were right on our beam the whole way out. That, plus too much drinking the night before, and not being on the water in a while, made me green all day.

So was that you we saw?

I would have ran to the 43 but it didn't sound like the bite was good enough to justify the extra 10 miles farther from home.

We're pretty easy to identify--assuming you can see our tiny boat at all . It's an 18' aluminum Bayrunner center console with a radar arch, but no top. Power is a 50HP Honda.

PS Just calculated our fuel usage. Mileage was down from almost 10 SMPG in lightweight bass mode to a measly 6.95 SMPG loaded for bear, in crappy seas, and 10 hours of trolling.

Kurt-- First congrats on Tues. for that outstanding catch. Sounds like the score of the season!!
Too bad about no fish on Friday, but I can`t wait to read Andres` report!!
I hope you showed him a few pictures, just so he will know what a fresh caught albacore looks like!!

Re: Albies: Go South, go Long, or stay home.

The problem was the extreme starboard lean to the Trash on the trip; shoulda taken me for ballast.

Sorry about the bad juju; just means better catching the next time.
