Rusty Hook 1.5 day on the El Capitan

Got back this morning 6/26 from our 1.5 day charter on the El Capitan out of Point Loma Sportfishing. Pretty decent early season fishing. We finished with 34 albacore (18-25#), 1 bluefin tuna (around 25#), 5 yellowtail (up to 20#) and 11 bonita for 11 anglers. Many troll stops throughout the day. Most effective lures were the smaller, 4" size with small diameter bodies: Sevenstrand tuna clone feathers, Sumo mini-jets, and Mylure Dart jet heads. Best colors: Black/Purple, Mex flag, and Zuccini. The bluefin tuna was caught by yours truly with an old Pink/White Jap head. Best live bait set-up: 25# line w/fluorocarbon, 2/0-3/0 hook, and a live sardine. Stops were short so you had to make your first bait count. There were several SD boats working the same area. Lots of dry kelp paddies. The crew of the El Capitan was great as always. I would highly recommend signing up for one of their limited load open party trips. No need to fight the crowds.

Good fishing,
