San Martin Island and out say 60 and up the line. The bodies of Yellow Fin Tuna that have given up fish, are small spots. Dont mater much anyways, those guys are way early and thats not a great sign. Blue Fin Tuna are still around and as close at the 9mile bank. Couple spots of small jumpers seen, these fish are in the 20 to 25 pound range. Old School Coronado, lee side of south island back in the day carried this fish, you older guys know the size of em.
Outside San Martin spots of the Yellow Fin Tuna have shown up, with that came the Blue Fin Tuna moving north twards San Diego and our outer banks. DEEP, marks again are showing Blue Fin Tuna on some of the kelps. Most kelps are holding ZIP-ZERO-NADA, while a few will show firecrackers. North of San Diego out 20 to 30 miles might be the next area for Blue Fin Tuna.
Newer Albacore have shown in areas, these fish seem to have come from the deep, as they are full of fat content and nice fat bellys and tails showing sign of wear, in which means they are moving into area, as compaired to the tails that are all nice and shinny, with no rips and wear.
got that? One case of point here,, talking to the old timers, that are still around this big squid is not helping much. It will make for a great swordfish season, thats about it.
Down below at around 400 miles and then some, its there, just not wanting to play much. the gates are open they just dont seem to want to swim through.
So , in general its a pretty much hurry up and wait for the next couple weeks. Scattered fish are still around, IMO we need a good case of weather to wake up this crap up....
Not really worth much, but thats what we know.

Again, always great dope and read Tommy..
The Yellow Fin Tuna flirting around sooo early is a little unsettling, imho.
Guys catching larger model Albacore at this time is typically not a great sign either, plus fish on the Doughnut outside Morro. Keep your fingers crossed guys. It would be fun to have a year with Blue Fin Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna, albies & Yellowtail all on the same paddies !!!
