Scumbag, StuckinHemet and Fishseeker crewed for an offshore run on Saturday. Headed for the 238 bank after a last minute SST showed a partial pic of some good water. Left si @ 2:00sharp, no radar, pitch dark and some serious pucker factor on board!
Arrived at the numbers in the greylight to find what we thought was 59.6 degree water. Found out later that my Furuno is about a degree on the cold side, but we turned weste and headed to the 295. Arrived and trolled, trolled, trolled for nada. Threw out all the usuals and some unusuals too. Heard about Quick Luck and Sea Hag having some luck but we couldn't get bit.
Most of the PB'ers turned south about mid morning, so we did also. One short strike, but no love. Stopped on several kelps but still nada. The windwaves prevented us from seeing any 'puddlers'.
Decided to paddy hop some more and soaked some bait for a LONG time and drifted WELL off the paddy when I got picked up. Before the fish hit the deck, Scumbag gets bit and we managed to salvage the trip with a nice 23 lb Blue Fin Tuna (KC) and a 27 lb Blue Fin Tuna (Scumbag). Excellent gaff work by Fish Seeker cost him a bite and Stucky nailed a headshot on Scumbag's fish. Nothing quite like the tail banging on the deck and blood splattered everywhere!
Trip home sucked. 2-3 foot swell and 1-2 foot of windwaves, against the grain the whole way.
Going to sell the kicker (01' Honda 4stk 9.9) and buy a radar.
