Huge, Huge bait tanks
Crew...
The skipper on this trip was Scott McDaniels. He has outstanding boat
handling skills and is a master at finding the fish. He takes pride in making the customer happy with thier time on the water. The stories he shares will keep you in stiches.
Maxima...
This trip was sponsored by Maxima. George and Jason were very helpful in giving knot tying lessons and in helping people understanding how to use the different kinds of leader material. The give aways were great! Line, leader material, hats, shirts, and goody bags for everyone. Thanks to all of the people at Maxima! I personaly saw George hand-off some really nice fish to other people. One was a quality yellow to my nephew.
The trip...
On Thursday night we ran down the coast 100 + miles and woke up to paddy hopping for yellows with some Blue Fin Tuna mixed in. Here I managed to get my first Blue Fin Tuna ever! These were very strong fish. I watched half a spool of line disappear off a old Jigmaster in a heartbeat. He ran me around the boat aboud 1 1/2 times before coming the gaff. Did I say these were VERY strong fish! It won the JP for the day.
My brother somehow managed to pick up a Mako early in the AM. (DOG)
115+ yellows and a hand full of Blue Fin Tuna later...the skipper had to decide if we were going to stay on the inside or run out to where the real meat was. When he stated that we were going to the outside...everyone went bonkers. Real men need real meat. Albies and Blue Fin Tuna here we come! We ran to the outside for most of the evening. The next morning we were up at 4:30 soaking dines before graylight. The Blue Fin Tuna were there and willing to die. Spent the day bouncing between paddy hopping and trolling and spotting jumpers. If some of you have never seen this, it is amazing to watch the water explode with mixed Albies and Blue Fin Tuna chasing bait and jumping out of the water. On this day we would stack the fish up on the back of the bait tanks until there were so many you could barely walk across the stern. Into the hold they would go to be cleaned later that evening. Back to stacking. We finished the day with 237 count of mixed yellows, albied and Blue Fin Tuna.
On Sunday we were back at the rail at 4:30 am soaking the dines...to great success...Back to stacking. We only had a few hours to fish before we would have to head back. They were very productive hours. I started taking pictures of the stack and had to go back and take more because we were adding fish really fast...
It was a great trip on a great boat! We finished the weekend with a total of 404 fish for 30 guys. Not bad!
My hat is off to Chuck Taft. He has put together a great fishing platform with massive bait capacity. Smooth, lean, just the way I like-em! Thanks to the crew for a great effort! I will fish this boat again!
