You probably think this is b.s. but 3 of us headed out of s.i. about 5:00am picked up a nice mix from e-bros and made bait (macs and huge smelt) at pt. loma (w/o pencil cudas) headed out to the 9 mi. bank for theshers- no love, hit the 182 then swung south to the 302. just north of the high spot we boat 4 yellows off paddys, 62.5 water.
then things got interesting as we headed south I see this huge fin we swing around and it drops out it was a ways out I really wasn't sure what I saw so we figure shark or big marlin ? my buddy rigs up this big spanish mac ? he caught off a paddy about 2 ft. long and drops it back also putting over a chum bag. any way we slow troll north and see the fin up ahead it looks like a billboard, I go up top (23' parker) and me and my buddys son watch as this fish comes straight for us it comes right to the boat!! great white maybe 20' long 4 or 5' across had to change my shorts afterwards it looked like a sub.
I know no pics=b.s. but this is our story and we are sticking with it. |

They're out there for sure, its the ocean isnt it? They mate on the west side of Catalina, why wouldnt they be around? A few months back a huge Great White attacked a 30ft. boat up at the channel Islands and almost sunk the boat! What a site that must have been!

Not surprised at all, especially this time of year. We had two come to the stern after a wide bite on the 'core out at the 60 about 8 years ago.

largest great white ever recorded was 19ft.
Most people dont know this. I would say around 16' is a good estimate.
I Definetly believe you saw it though, there are alot more of them than people think.

Holy shit dog, that must of been an awesome site.
Last year while trolling south west of the 425, in the crest of a swell I saw what looked like a solid grey orca,no one else saw it...who knows.

Yeah, I have seen them in our area as well. Pretty crazy how investigative they are ... and they r not scared of Shiz net
The best shark show was on the New Lo an two years ago in a ripper Yellowtail bite, guy is on the side if the boat with a 14-18 lb model . brings it up in gaff ...
and a friggin Mako jump out of the water , like a dog after a frisbee. It was a good size unit too. Cant guess its weight maybe 200+. I didnt see its scales ... |

SIZE
Great whites average 12-16 feet long (3.7-4.9 m) long. The biggest great white shark on record was 23 feet (7 m) long, weighing about 7,000 pounds (3200 kg). Females are larger than males, as with most sharks. Shark pups can be over 5 feet (1.5 m) long at birth.
