I found out that my 48 lb. fish was a wild female, at about 16 years of age...I'm 32...that half my age! Needless to say I will help in any way that I can.

I think you might have been there on a busy or off day. The guy's at Hubbs rock.

Re: White Seabass Release and Recapture Facts (Please turn in heads!)

Remember... you CAN volunteer to help raise the juvinile white sea bass... Myself and The Sea Hag volunteer at Sea Lab at Redondo Beach.
We clean and vacuum the tanks, take counts of dead fish, ensure that the automatic feeders are filled and working properly, take water temperature readings of the tanks, and document all of the above information...anyone can sign up to help, and when you do sign up, you are put on the schedule. It only takes about an hour each time you go, and you are helping raise tomorrows fish today.... one hour every 3 or 4 weeks won't kill you.
Not catching any white sea bass?...maybe if you volunteered to help raise them for release, you could have a better chance of catching one!

Some have asked if they need the stones out of the heads and the anwser is yes. The stones are used to age the fish. Much like the rings on a tree there are rings on the stones, visable when cut, that are used to age the fish.

Smile $500 Winner

After you turn in the heads your tag goes into the drawing at the Hatchery. Twice a year an anglers name is randomly drawn by the hatchery staff. The lucky angler gets a $500 reward for his efforts. These funds are provided by the Marina del Rey Anglers Annual Halibut Derby. Mark Johnson of Ventura is the most recent lucky angler to be rewarded for turning in white seabass heads.

Ditto. Didn't know you could get head at Hooters. Mostly just a free tit show and good wings.

Exactly! They'll also mail you the stones back if you write down on the card you want them. The exception is if when the fish is scanned it has a tag, they want to keep those particular stones but will send you a matching set from their collection.
