A nice day for a boat ride 2...05/14/05

Was my first trip out this season and took the boat out for a shakedown. Was hoping to catch some pelagics in the process. Yeah right, 425, 371, 302, La Jolla, and 71 gallons of gas later all I had were 5 checker boards and a slight buzz. At least I got the skunk off at La Jolla in the afternoon. Paddy's were few and far between.

Weather was great. Seas were a little bigger down past the 425 but not bad. Water was 67.2 near the 425, found some 68 degree water towards the 302, and some 69.5 degree water between the 9's.

Also, got checked by DFG at La Jolla. First time that has happened, but no big deal. We didn't have our license "clearly visible above the waist", In fact I had to dig mine out from my wallet inside the cuddy. I asked the officer about that and he told me that technically you are supposed to have your license displayed above your waist but they don't really enforce that. He said that lots of people have lost their license by taking off their sweatshirt or losing their hat.

Great day on the water.

Happy hunting. Calico are always a good treat. Seems like the feeshes ain't quite ready yet. I'm waiting a bit longer, but when I do run down I will hit the spots nearby the 302, 425, etc however in a totally different direction where a lot of boat miss because it is relative coastal. You'll be surprise what lurks from approx 14 miles off the coast, but 40 miles deep in Mexican waters.
