No Joy - 60 Mile / Mushroom Wed 11/05/09

Broke down and made the run down to the 60 MB and towards the Mushroom looking for some of the recent action posted lately. Couldn't make it happen for us. We made it to the 60 and headed as far as 32.00 / 118.21 trying. Only found the rat Yellowtail.

Talked to a boat named Notorious who was working the area. They found 1 Blue Fin Tuna on the troll last I talked to them. They had to head out early going back to Long Beach I think.

Talked to one other boater - didn't get name - they said they got some Blue Fin Tuna on a paddier around 02/11 (this is from memory but it is somewhat close). They had to run but gave us the numbers and we ran the 5 miles and to my amazement found the paddie. We worked it for half an hour or so and couldn't get it to go so headed back torwad Mission Bay at 20 knts and pulled in about 6:30. Found a few more dry paddies along the way.

Arrgh. I was really hoping to get that one last fish slaying in. Oh well, still beat the Hell out of being at work!

Scott,

Do you recall water temps and color? Any obvious temp breaks out there? I havent been able to pick up any clear indications from the recent tempbreak updates?

Planning a trip this Friday, trying to put my plan together.

thanks,
Jake

That's for sure! Thanks for reporting, as all information is useful.

What were water temps at the different locations? Did you meter anything?

Temp was 65 on my gauge and water color was a nice clear blue. I don't recall running into any major temp breaks. It was 64 a bit further north.

yep agreed .. at this point I am considering a run down to the hidden and maybe across to the 390/cross/213 area.

Curious what others are thinking.

That's my plan for Saturday provided the weather doesn't jump up too bad.

Sorry to hear.

That's a long run and a lot of fuel for nada.

I'm headed to the sushi bar - should be able to get a decent meal for a couple hundred bucks.

Randy V, it looks like you're going to have to get the "value meal" for sushi if you bring someone else.

Let's see....

160 nm travelled
85 gallons fuel @ $3.00 = $255
gas in truck = $25
bait = $40
------------------
Total = $320

Div by 2 = $160 each

Well, I was going easy, knowing it was at least that much to get there and back.

If we went fishing just to save money at the seafood market we'd never go fishing - it doesn't pencil out!
