I know this is not the proper forum for this post but its where the folks that fished with him on the Cherokee Geisha will see it best.I am sorry to say that a very good friend and fellow sportboat operator Captain Butch Harris passed away in a very unfortunate accident on August 12th 2009 while boarding the barge they were hired to tow with the tug IW.HAILE at dock in Cartagena Columbia.Apparently he slipped on the ramp, hit his chest hard and fell into the water and drowned unfortunatly the crew member that was with him at the time could not swim (learn to swim people our planet is 70% water) and he went for help but it was much too late and Butch was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital .Butch was a great friend and introduced me to the real Baja about 6 years ago when we took my 33 ft motorhome 600 miles down HWY 1 to San Lucas Cove and it was a trip to remember as he was the navagator because this was my first trip down there in a really big motorhome on skinny roads with Military check points and all kinds of crazy drivers. He had so many stories to tell around almost every corner ,he would say did you know that Jackson(bait boat operator for Ervinghams) took his VW all the way up that canyon right over there 15 years ago or we have to stop here because they have the best roadside Tacos. I looked at him and said are you nuts I am not going to eat here! out he went so I had to follow and you know what they were really good tacos in a place you would not dream of eating if you were not clued into the Baja scene.I now keep my motorhome in San Lucas cove next to Kevin Wards trailer(Searcher) and every time I go down there Butch will be with me and we will do many toasts in his name because thats what he loved.Good by my friend
Thanks Randal for your kind words about our friend...I first met Butch on the Sea Spray with Vince Jim Darlin and the boys....Then I left and when I came back he welcomed me with open arms on the Cherokee.....This has been a tough week for the
San Diego fleet.........Prayers sent.....Next trip to S.D I think I'll go to the Ballast Pub and remember the the last time we fished...........RIP
