2 Day on the Indian with Capt. Randel over the 4th

First of all I want to thank Captain Randel and his crew aboard the Indian for a great weekend on the water in some not so great conditions. My first ride on this boat........... and was impressed with the operation. And that takes a lot coming from me being mainly a private boater. We all knew that the fish counts were not good.............and that the weather was predicted to be a bit rough. But I watched Captain Chris gather all his information a put together a game plan that was the best he could do with what was in front of him. We got an early start (around 8:30pm) and headed south. Started hitting paddies in the morning as we trolled the jigs and had a good stop on one of them. I believe around 18 tails. The crew did an excellent job of untangling lines calming people down and gaffing the fish. I had almost forgot how crazy tail fishing can be on a sport boat. But when we got back on the troll in was a long day. Did get a couple of blind strikes in the late after noon to put a few albies on the deck. But stayed with our game plan and at 5:30 in the evening the ablies, showed their faces. The jigs would go off and we could get 1 or 2 on the bait......but it just would not go wide open. I believe we ended up with 22 albies. Haven't looked at the count this morning but I bet we were one of the high boats, if not the high boat. The next morning the weather was tough. Seeing paddies was almost impossible. But when Capt. Chris did find us some they were not holding. I guy did manage a damn good size one........but that was pretty much our day on Sunday. Here's Captain Randel with his report of our trip.

Yours truly only managed 1 Albacore on bait with the 20 lb. set up. And I'm find with that. Tough fishing out there and I feel good about getting at least one in the sack. Met some great people on the boat............chowed down on some great grub the whole trip.........and got a chance to check out another killer sport boat operation. I'll be back. More than likely, sooner than later. I just kept thinking..........damn glad Brandon and I aren't out on good Ol' Hanna this weekend.............we'd be taking an ass whopping.

Curtis...........

Chris, Thanks for a fine trip. Your crew is a great bunch of guys.
This was the first time I went on a trip were the Capt and the crew
filled the bait tanks ahead of time. I'm used to stopping at the barge on the way out. Every little bit of added fishing time helps. And what
great bait it was. I was the idiot that left some thing on the boat.
Thanks for taking it to the HM office. All and all a good trip.

John

Hold on, I'm checking my phone messages.........no messages....uh?........I wonder if my phone is broken? I know I would usually get an invite for fresh sashimi! I guess I'm out of the loop.

Good fishing with you Curt, and thanks to Capt. Randell for working hard to make the most of it. Looks like we were a couple days too early on this one. I feel lucky I was able to walk away with 3 albies and a couple yellows considering. I must be getting old because the weather really beat me up this time. See ya on the water sometime.
