| hidden bank to trench
We left the dock at point loma and headed out at 5 am.the seas were flat calm and just what i was hoping for. we decideed we would go straight to the hidden bank and see if we could chase the warm water off. we knew tuna was a long shot so we decided yellows were our best target.we found porpoise in three different locations on the way from the islands to the 425. water was dirty and cold and started to get better aftre the 425 about 5 miles south.we cleared the fog and the water started warming up and turning a nice blue. we reached the hidden bank and it was about 68.5 so we decided south . it got better and better as we reached the trench knuckle area and found several small patties. two of them had short striking yellows and a dorito. we didnt want to burn daylight on picky eaters so we kept looking. we dicided as soon as we put trollers out we would find patties galore so we did. 5 mins later hooked something and i farmed it at the boat , bonito, alby. or skipjack? anyway kept goin and spotted the patty we were dreaming of . pulled up and got a 75 pound mako, then the yellows showed and jumped in the ice chest. seven later they stopped so we took off and found another paddy 500 feet away , thats were they went! dropped down and bingo , we rounded out our limits. jammed in at 28 mph and done. yellows were just in keeper range of 6- 12 pounds. we kept them because we have none in the freezer and we drove from ventura where yellows dont grow on trees. its the perfect way to end my season. and a sweet season it was . 17 alby, 11 Yellow Fin Tuna, 11 yellowtail, 5 dorado,2 mako, all in 8 trips out. Im happy! See ya next year!
