Mike Wong and I launched the Highland Lassie in emeryville at 6am.
We ran straight up to the duxbury bouy in flat calm seas.
Within 10 minutes my rod goes off, and instantly I know that this is going to be good.
My ultralight Loomis and Calcutta 250 were going to be put to the test.
Line is screaming off the reel at an incredible pace, we turn the boat and start the pursuit.
The fish takes me "around the world", having me scramble up to the bow when he makes a very scary run under the boat.
Back down the other side onto the deck, and the fight continues.
After several more very fast, hard, long runs, he gets close to the boat, and Mike puts the bag on his ass.
He tipped the scale at 41lbs.
I realized that the camera I had brought had no memory card.
Fortunatly, I had my backup, my first digital camera, given to me by the late Eric Husman.
Thanks Eric.
After some coaxing I get it to work, but the quality is not great.

This is my largest salmon this year.
We continue to troll, and wind up at the towers.
My rod goes off again, this time it is a nice lingcod.

Mike's luck is not as good, he keeps catching mackeral.

There were some big ones.

We troll up the line a bit, and it is showtime again, my little outfit is screaming, and another chase ensues.
This is another slug, that puts up one hell of a battle.
I wind up fighting him from up on the bow, which is actually a great place to fight a big salmon.
After 15 minutes, Mike makes a great scoop.
This one goes 35lbs on the scale.

Time for a Corona.

Mike lands another mackreal, and tosses it in the bloodstream blooding up the boat.

We troll for several more hours and decide to switch it up and target some white meat.
We get our limits of mainly bolinas cod.

I complete my lingcod limit with this real nice specimin.

We start for home and see a big commotion on the water.
We investigate, and find a 12 foot Great White Shark devouring a sealion on top of the water.
The shark allows up to get real close, and we were able to watch as he had his dinner.
Unfortunatly, the camera started to malfunction, so no footage of the carnage.
This was a great ending to a fantastic day on the water, in which I was able to get my limit of salmon totaling 76 pounds, (my personal best limit), and my limits of both lingcod and rockfish.
Salmon were caught at 44ft otw, using a stock softie FBR.
One with anchovy, and one on a big sardine.
Weather was great all day.
Sometimes it is just your day.
Today it was my day.
