Eureka runs?

I am almost ready to get a boat up here in ffice:smarttags" />Eureka, My question for you all, especially Jan, is how far do you guys usually run for salmon? Pacific halibut? Crab?fficeffice" />

I know the distance for albacore and the cape, but I plan on fishing salmon, crab and P. halibut more often than those runs. I'm trying to talk myself out of a larger, more comfortable gas hawg!

Cheers,
John

Re: Eureka runs?

So what poat are you getting?

Salmon season is closed for the ocean here, rockfish, ling and halibut are still fair game.

Crabbing is easy, about a mile or two north of the Jaws 50-80 feet of water.

Rockfish are scarce out of Eureka unless you go to the cape, easiest access for structure fishing is out of Trinidad $25 to launch.

Halibut is either California butts in the bay or the Pacifics outside I usually start in about 200 feet of water for them, watch the meter and look for the hard sand bottom.
