Salmon and Albacore Eureka...

Salmon fishing was off the chart yesterday and today, I caight fish from 200 to 600 feet which equates to a five to eight mile wide band.

They were on the chew and pretty much ate everything you pulled across thier noses. Trolled bait was the best producer but the little silvers were a pain after a while.

Tons of silvers and smaller kings, and the raido chatter was that someone got into the albacore 22 miles out no confirmed reports yet but it's got the fishermen all excited right now. More to follow.

I made a couple of drifts for Halibut too using salmon trimmings from yesterday, no Butts but did catch a couple of nice sole and a Hake (Looked like a darned Lizard fish to me) so I'll be out there tomorrow, got to take advantage of this while I can.

Its about time Jan,

Talked to my dad Sunday and he said it was clear part of the day and it started raining a little in the afternoon.

He said they had to pull the boat out because the swells were kicking up pretty good last week, gave them a chance to install his new stereo in the boat.

Glad you got into them, I'm thinking about making a run up there towards the end of next week for a few days if the weather looks to hold up.

Congrats on the score !

-JIM

Got into them again today, I went out to 300' to some numbers I had for an area they say holds Halibut, drifted for about 2 hours but no takers.

Decided to troll in for Salmon so I ran a bit NE to about even with the stacks and when I got to about 225' I started trolling and ended up with a 24 inch peanut, several pretty decent silvers (All released) and then got one that was about 11# that filled the limit.

Sure were a lot of people out this AM, but they gave up mid morning and the place was like empty by 1:00 PM.

Fresh grilled salmon for dinner again, Lime, Cilantro, and a touch of garlic... YUMMIE!

There was more chatter on the raido about tuna but it didn't appear that any were being caught. And the wind is going to come up tomorrow and blow for the next few days, I need to rest the knee anyway.

That's some good news on the salmon, and albies already on the move up north!! I am currently on a long boat ride from San Diego back to Puget Sound. Most of our marine waters open up for salmon in the next week, so I'm stoked! I may be fishing this Sunday out of Westport for the opener, if weather permits. I did some chummin this weekend at the dumper so I'll hope for fair seas!

I am ready to get the smoker fired up, and I'll be ready to smoke some of Smudge's Albie that he so kindly parted with!!!
