Thumbs up Eureka Salmon report

I headed out Friday AM and spent the morning running around looking for bait and birds and drifting outside for Butts, no soap.

I switched over to Salmon trolling and hooked up a couple of times but failed to get them to stay on. (God bless those barbless hooks)

There were a lot of other boats out there and I heard reports of fish to 23# with the average being 10-12, the bite was on Apex lures and trolled bait and was a slow pick acording to the regulars.

I have a lot to learn about Salmon, he he.

A fun day inspite of the lack of fishing success and of course I can't get out today, winds kicked up overnite to 25-30 and S/C adviso is up.

You guys in the south have no idea how blessed you are with the great weather you get.

You know the best salmon are the steal head.....nothing like a good fight on the river...I miss that. been over 20 years since I had the chance to land one.

Tough break Jan, you should give my brother Ron a call and go out with him.

I'm going to go ahead and post the email he sent to me here with a couple of pictures.

Sorry for the thread hijack, if it upsets any one :FU: this time . . . .

-JIM

*******************************************

We went out in the fog today to try out the radar ( Works Great ) 240
from Trinidad Head pass the whistle to the 3 mile line.
Dropped the lines in and got fish right away 3 nice King's to start the
day, made a turn to work back across them and hooked up
5 more times with shakers and silvers. Dropped the lines down deeper to
60' and picked up one more King. Done with salmon in less than
an hour.

Ran it to the turtles near some splash rocks to bottom fish
picked up a nice red and a few blacks. moved around a little and got
a real nice Lingcod hitch hiking on a good size black got the both in
the boat. Reset and picked up a real small snapper and hung it on for
Ling bait and nailed a Green Ling. So dad started putting on whole
anchovies and picked up another Ling filled out our limits of bottom
fish with a few more snapper in about 3 hours we were done and on our
way home.

Thumbs up

Great report Jim, I was tempted to run up there yesterday bit got lazy plus the wind was starting to kick up a little and I didn't feel like busting my butt on an uphill run from the Jaws to Trinidad.

Had I decided to go earlier it would have been ok.

Great fish you showed there, I think I'll make that run up there when it settles down some here.
