Anyone here from the Eureka area?

Just decided to pay this board a visit and will be posting some reports for Eureka for time to time.

So far the only thing going is the rockfish off Trinidad and the Jetty at Humboldt bay but the salmon opener is the 21st so that will boost the excitement.

I think I'll go down to the main ramp and watch on Saturday morning, that's the day everyone shows up with high hopes and anything that will float. It's reminicent of the scene from the first Jaws move when they announced the reward for the shark.

The weather is turning about half snotty again and the small crafts warnings are up but the Salmon opener is hopefully going to be somewhat clear.

Just an FYI if you decide to come up the Coast Guard and the Sherriff patrol are busy checking folks as they go in the water and issuing tickets.

Talking

We moved here from San Diego (Santee) in '97, I sure miss that fishing but don't miss the crowds, traffic, smog and all the other stuff.

It rains a little more than in San Diego.

I'm in Myers Flat (50 miles south, still Humboldt) does that count? Fish Shelter Cove mostly although damn near lived out of Fields Landing last year when the Albies were in.

Yeah I know but the weather isn't co-operating worth a damn. lol

What have you been using for 'Butt bait! Some of the locals here say makerel, but I know those things will eat most anything but really like salmon bellies.

We were using herring... but we brought up alot of sandabs that had bite marks. Will try salmon bellies and dabs next time.

The weather has been tough this year!

Trinidad

My brother manages an arm of the family business in Trinidad.

We just picked up a new boat and will be doing charters this season on her. Go by the Ocean Grove Lodge and have a drink at the bar. ask for Ron, tell him I sent you over.
I'll be up there around the 17th of July to fish for a week.

Thanks Lamna, if you're talking about the Harley I was motivated on this one. The price made it very attractive to me. This boat will be kept in So. Cal to fish local and Mexican waters. Looking forward to a productive season on her.

For fishing in Trinidad, we just purchased a new Davis Rock Harbor. My dad and brother are almost finished with the rigging, its got all the electronic goodies and they know the area very well. We've owned the Grove for over 20 years. The previous owner was a long time family friend who just passed away a few days ago.
RIP TED !

When I get up there and if the water lays down a little, I'd like to fish Redding Rock for some monster ling.
