Monterey question

Hey guys I drove around the bay a few times today and saw about 20-25 boats about 1/2 a mile off seaside beach. Anyone know what was going on. Most looked like they were fishing. Im guessing squid. Any info?

Wow what a sand dab bite must have been epic. Thanks for the info Tino. Stopped by the boat launch and saw some real nice grey ghosts.

Heard the sand dab bite was been wfo all last week off Monterey... Same with the mackerel. Make sure to stock up on your sabikis and 12 lb line... this may be your only chance at em for the season!

Trying to head out there is Friday for a chance at the white sea bass if they are still around. We'll see.

They're not... They left the area yesterday and are now being caught off Half Moon Bay near Mavericks.. Fish there! And you'll catch one for sure

This year has been so weird, the Stripers came early and left, now the WSB?! WTF?!

I had 3 friends who were out there on Sat/Sun fishing from kayaks and one on his Boston Whaler. Said all they got were some kelp fish...couldn't get any squid or mackerel. just sardines and sanddabs. One buddy on the yaks sent me a picture of an 23inch sanddab an it was SOLID-came in at 17.3lbs.

I haven't put new braid on my Sealines and prob will and try to head out there Fri. for those sanddabs after trying for albies. Do you guys think 30lb. braid will be enough for those sanddabs? I hear they are pound for pound stronger than Pacific Halibut.

Brendan, I read a couple of posts on Coastside about 4 boats fishing in between the buoys at low tide near Mavericks-I think right in front of Pillar Point Harbor. I guess the water shooting out is taking the squid right out also with it creating a conveyor belt for the WSB and they are just lined up there on the outside of the buoys at low tide. If the weather looks good this Sat. I may just have to try there and get a nice seabass esp. with the tides. Have you seen them? Minus baby!!!

There is plenty of fish all over the coast right now, so don't let any one tell you otherwise.

Sarcasm is an elusive fish to catch, sometimes.

I have a feeling that McCovey Cove, I mean Monterey Bay will be full of boats this weekend, so be courteous.

I think it's PFO that the bite is on like Donkey Kong. Just remember not to move after you load up on the live squid. It's funny when I see people doing this: Load up on squid in 50-75 ft. of water and immediately head for deeper water. These fish follow the squid. Just drop your first live or dead squid down while jigging for the squid you mark. And, don't move.
