Morro Albies Still Hotttt

Short Story
Fish: 30 albies
Size: 15 to 25 LBS
Location: 03 & 32

Long Story

After missing out on the bite on Saturday and bad weather Sunday I was skeptical of fishing Monday. My friends Brian and Joel have been hitting me up to take them out for albies and another friend Rich is always game to go. The kicker was his son had a day off from school due to a teacher work day. So Rich asked if he cold bring Logan along? I said I thought it might be a little far (40-50 miles) and could be lumpy for a 10 year old but Rich said he would be fine.

So at 3:30am we met at the AM PM in Morro Bay and topped of the tank got some goodies and headed for the ramp. Plenty of activity at the ramp so we knew that there would be lots of people heading most likely for the Donut. As we went through the harbor a few minutes after 4:00 someone asked "is the bait tank on?" instantly I thought "no way" so we tinkered with it for about 5 minutes then I pulled us up to a big metal working boat that's about 100 feet from the bait dock and we changed out the bait pump. We got bait and off we went on a 230 heading figuring we would stay above the fleet in hopes of hearing whatever was going on down there.

Seeker Jim was a little below me and Legacy Mike was in the vicinity so I knew that I was in good company. I planned to go until I found 62 degree water then put the gear in I thought it would be about 45 miles. When we got to 03 & 31 the water jumped from 59 to 61. We put the gear in and it was only 7:15.

By 8:15 we were all smiles. 3 on troll 3 on bait 1 on swim bait with 3 dropped. We had two or three 7 to 8 foot blue sharks just hanging out with us on this stop. You could easily gaff them from the side of the boat I poked them several times to get them to take off but it never lasted long. We actually hooked them 2 or 3 times too.

Back on the troll Logan was ready to do it again he was so excited on the first stopped it was great to see.

After a few ones and twos on the troll and another short bait stop it got to be about 10:00 and Brian and Rich were getting tried :rflrl:

Then not long after that things went wild again 4 troll rods went off and we had them going good. 4 on the troll 4 on bait and 1 on swim bait

Then with 21 fish I thought that I would start to head back toward the area we got our first fish. We went right over the dot on the screen and the reels started screaming again. We got 8 more and Logan hooked and fought his first bait albie. On the day he caught probably 4 fish all alone no assists and was a part in 10 others meaning tangles, outdrive, or shark took him out of the game.

We actually had to leave because we could not fit anymore fish in the holds and ice chest that sides under the tackle lockers would only fit 4 in it. We all agreed this was a good problem to have and headed toward the rock at 2:00.

One bummer back at the dock where Rich parked his truck someone had let the air out of both his back tires. It was 4:00am when he parked and he didn't see the yellow paint indicating loading and unloading I can't see any paint in that parking lot every time I park the truck and trailer it's a pain.

Crew was blast and did a great job cleaning the boat.

My son Kal was stoked to see us and his friend Logan had a great day. He wished that he didn't have to go to school and could have been there.

Thanks to Petey for coming by and helping out with cleaning the fish we got them all done and were heading home by 8:00pm.
