506 lb male mako - one of the largest ever landed

Hey Guys - Captain Art Cortes in Montauk sent this to me. I cant find a larger male mako on record? He says it could be the largest male laned but if not its definately up there. He sent it to me on Saturday, believe it was caught last week. Art has the IGFA record for blue shark as well and is one of the best captains I have ever fished with. We'll be out with him first week of July. Cant wait. Hell of a fish.

Arty sent it to me this past Saturday so I'm assuming it was a recent fish. He is out of Montauk so he usually fishes within the 30-60 mile range for these fish.

I am familiar with the Montauk sharking but I thought he got either that fish or one very similar in weight last season.

Very possible. He just sent me the picture this past Saturday so I assumed it was a recent catch. Either way big ass mako.

Mundus landed a 1,080 pound mako. It is still the IGFA 80# record. There have been numerous mako's caught over 500 pounds, some between 600 and 900 pounds, off Long Island from Montauk and the canyons.
