Do you spend most of your time on the water in the ocean? if yes, you want a Type 1 PFD
If you are a lake or harbor guy, a type III PFD will do.

Always buy quality and from a boating type store so you can be fitted for the proper size.

Mustang 3183. Hydrostatic auto-inflate. The manual ones are worthless. How are you going to inflate if you are knocked unconscious? The auto-inflate models that use a soluble "bobbin" need a lot of maintenance. They will inadvertantly deploy in high humidity situations. If you need a contact to buy I know a place that has the Mustang at a great price. They also have the full harness model.
