After you polish the rim.. Put on a coat of wax.. I like meguiars gold class for this purpose.. The wax seals the surface and the shine lasts a lot longer..

Only aluminum wheel finishes that stay shiny are chromed aluminum or aluminum thats clear coated... The killer setup are aluminum wheels that are chromed as well as clear coated... Some of these "Miracle products" can get a decent shine.. But I haven't seen anything that lasts on a bare polished aluminum rim.. What metal polish are you using?????

Wax it, the wax goes into the poors of the metal and seals it . Thus keeping the aluminiun from oxidizing. Repeat the prosses as ness.

Once their nice and shiny, (Mothers or whatever) apply some boat wax as a sealer. Classic used to have a Classic Marine Wax, it was designed for saltwater immersion and very durable. I am sure a boating supply would have something comparable.
I;m suprised your automotive wheels are not clear powdercoated, most are.
