Re: Thinking Of Getting A German Shepherd

they are awesome dogs. very protective but can be aggressive towards other people and especially other dogs. We had to get rid of ours after several instances where he fought with other dogs and won. As long as you dedicate a lot of time to training them and have them spend time around other dogs and other people you shouldn't have a problem. Know that they shed a lot and take huge craps which aren't fun to clean up. they also have to have lots of exercise every day. you probably know all this anyway and could find much more info on the net. Also try and get one with german heritage...not American bred...the ones with more german in them have a less chance of getting hip displasia and other ailments. good luck

Fantastic animals. I grew up with Shepards. Honestly I would not do it in a condo. As mentioned before these animals require a lot of run time and space.

I'm not saying without proper professional training some of those issues cannot be lessoned, but anticipate a lot of damage due to chewing and various other puppy habits.

Get a chihuahua! They need less space and the damage is less!

Very smart dogs. Need space to run. Sharp teeth, too. Mine is aggressive towards other dogs. If you get a Shepherd in a condo, you should get a big dog crate for training and as the dog's safe spot.

Maybe a Jack Russel terrier?

Have the hips checked before paying, or at least see the hip history on the parents.

I agree with all of the above, we just got this one and she is driving me nuts. I love the dog but she is tearing everything up, can’t wait till she gets older. Good luck, Deno

keep all damagable things out of reach. mine managed to tear up a couple text books, eat batteries and medicine but she's still fine. they're also very loyal. it'll probably snip at everyone except the owner. my dumbass bro tossed a lit cig bud into he trash can and it caught fire without anyone noticing. my dog went crazy i went to check up on her and put out the fire

German Shepherd is a great dog but not in a condo. Think about the Dog and your neighbors. Hold off on the dog until you have a yard and seperation between neighbors. JMO

Re: Thinking Of Getting A German Shepherd

Unless it fits in a purse, you shouldn't have a dog in a condo. It's unfair to the animal. They need room to strech their legs. The puppy phase is always distructive. The more chew items you have around the less the chew something of value. Also with chew toys, keep material and texture in mind. They can't tell the difference between a knit toy and you knit sweater.

Oh, and kennel train, kennel train, kennel train!! It will pay off a million times over.

Ali and I have spent tons of money on training the dogs over the years. Unfortunately it was the last guy we found that was a miracle worker. When you do get a puppy, PM me, I'll give you the name and number of the guy that helped us. He's awesome.

Great family dogs, very loyal. But some are biters.
