dryer help

This is probably something really stupid but I'm going to ask anyway. I moved my dryer a few days ago. I unplugged it and unscrewed the gas line. Now I've hooked it back up but the dryer won't get hot. It turns on and spins, but no heat. What do I need to do?

Re: dryer help

are you sure you have gas coming out from that particular outlet? you may need to "bleed out" any air from the system first. unscrew the line and open the cock until you begin to smell it. then, re connect and keep trying. it'll take time for the gas to reach the appliance so keep trying...

Re: dryer help

Did you turn on the gas valve? You should be able to see the ignitor cycling by starting the dryer with the lights off. Red glow will come from the burner area. They will continue to cycle until any air bleeds and the burner fires. Most ignitors are a fragile ceramic bar that can be damaged by jarring the appliance. Especially if they are old.

Re: dryer help

It turns on and tumbles round and round just fine, it just won't get hot. Should it ignite automatically? Is there something I have to reset? Thermofuse? I suppose it could have an air bubble in the system, so I'll try bleeding it when I get home. Dryer is less than 2 years old and I only moved it a few feet to the other side of the garage. It was not jarred.

I have not even taken the back panel off the dryer yet. I was hoping it was something simple but it sounds like I might have to dive in.

Re: dryer help

if you hear horses, don't look for zebras it's probably something obvious. you should

1) check for gas
2) look inside for the glow/igniter.

Re: dryer help

I would check the vent first and make sure there is good flow, this is the most common problem.

Re: dryer help

If you moved your dyer, chances are your igniter broke, those are very fragile!! Check the thermal fuse first and if thats still good open up the front cover and see if your igniter is still in one piece.

Re: dryer help

How do I check the thermal fuse? This is a front loading dryer so the panel is in the back.

Re: dryer help

I would have to agree with fishstick-er on this one probable the ignitor i work on appliances and never had a problem with air in the gas line. You defffinitly need to check for glowing ignitor altho even if it is glowing it could still be bad to test a glowing ignitor you need to do an amp check with a clamp on amp meter or voltage check if it is not glowing. What kind is it? If it is a standard front load whirlpool it should have a little peep hole that is covered by a plastic cover remove cover and look in side it should start glowing within a minute .. By the way did you check the temp. select to make sure you are in heat mode?
