Catalina Info Needed

My wife and I are planning a vacation at the begining of summer @ Catilina. We would like to rent a condo or small house for a week +. My wife and 6yo son will take the catalina boat over. My 12yo son and I will take the boston whaler over. I would need if possible to reserve a bouy or slip. Is there anyone that lives there that can give me the 411 of getting this off the ground for us?

Re: Catalina Info Needed

As far as I know, everything in Avalon is on a first come, first serve basis. If it's a holiday weekend, it can get real hard to get a spot. Also, there is no slips, just cans. If you go mid-week you should be fine. If you go on the weekend, get there early in the morning to give yourself a good chance to get a can.

Well, we plan on staying for a week. When you are able to get a "can", do you lose it everytime you take your boat out? I would just like to have my boat there during the week to use as I wish. How can I be guaranteed a place for my boat during this time?

You have the can for the whole day, but I believe it is on a day to day basis.

Re: Catalina Info Needed

Tim, try this. Get a campsite at 2 Harbors. They have tent cabins fully equipped. Or you can take your own tent and set up your own site. You can book over the web. Do it early! Your Whaler will be on the string line. You can fish Ship Rock and just about the whole frontside, plus take a day trip to the backside and Farnsworth. There is a channel boat from Long Beach for the wife and kids.

This is what we did 2 summers ago. I sailed up, my kids with 2 friends came and stayed in the tent for a week. I carried almost all the camp equipment on my boat.

They have a truck that delivers stuff to the campsite. They can bring a cooler and lots of gear on the channel boat.

Cheap vacation.

Take them to Avalon on the Whaler for a day trip. You can get a 4 hour mooring there easy (have the Two Harbors harbor master call first).
