What is your favorite boat to ride and why? The Seafood Mama, because she is mine. There is something very satisfying about getting in a good days fishing on a boat you have kept up and know well, also she is cheap on gas.
2nd would have to be the Shogun

Tell us something that you don't tell to many people. I have 3 butt holes

What is one thing you have learned from fishing? Patience

Do you have any advice to future fishermen?
Learn as much as you can from those who know what they are doing without annoying them, respect the environment and it's resources, don't be afraid to try new things...and most of all, be modest about whatever success you may have.

What is YOUR favorite species to catch? Calico & Yellowtail Favorite place to fish with Tips to share with other members: Kelp Beds. Don't be afraid to drift through drop down in the thick parts, even if there is no opening on top. Set up the boat parallel to the stringers and drop down beside them. In general 60-80' of water will require a 3-4 oz head to get you to the bottom and back up without getting snagged. Vary your retrieve and action to help locate where in the water column the bite is at, then focus on that depth. 6-8' top shot and 50lb + spectra is a must. It's a very effective way to fish big bass and WSB on plastics.

If you could be a fishing guide anywhere in the world, where would you be and what would you fish for?
I'd do a mother ship operation down around the Mid-Driffs or Panama, so much variety, and so many options.

With all of the fishing boards around now- I am sure you have met more fishermen than you would have without the boards. What has been the most memorable experience in dealing with another fisherman from the internet? Sitting on the back of the Shogun fishing for mackerel with Jscribs, X-man and Locobro at 3 in the morning, that got ugly.

What is one weakness of yours?
Beer & Fishing. Fishing gets me in trouble more tho.

Wanna tell us about your family?
My sister is about to attend her first year at Berkley and my brother just signed a full ride scholarship to play basketball for University of Michigan this year as a freshman. My mom is from Pasadena and Dads from Hollywood Fla. Each love to fish and grew up doing it from an early age . My moms father Gill Robinson was a huge fisherman and wrote a few olde school books on fly fishing after he retired from the FBI in the late 60's. My dads side of the family moved to Spring Valley in 48 when his dad came back from the war in the Pacific. He had already been into fishing back there and coming out here only made him want to go more. They met at their Alma Mater, SDSU. Dad was a life Guard in OB and LJ for many years until he finished law school at cal western (now PLNU in PL) and moved back to Naples Fla in 86/87, 9 years after they divorced. He taught me everything I know about the water from how to fish for Corbina to grabbing lobsters. He still fishes and dives quite a bit. Mom later quit her teaching position at Del Mar Hills Elementary School and took a job at El Pescador Fish Market in Del Mar so she could be around more. The upside for me was that I got to hang around the market and learned a ton about the different types of local fish that would come through our door. She moved to NW Montana in 92 with my step dad and loves it.

Furthest distance ever fished off shore?
65+in the Stringari, 100+ on others

What would your "DREAM BOAT" be? Easy, Radon Signature 26, mid-engine, direct drive with a single diesel & a propane stove.

Dream destination: Midway Island for inshore and off shore.

If you could live any life style any where what would it be?
Live somewhere near the tip of Baja surf, fish, dive, drive a dune buggy with sparkly paint and build my own boats, maybe guide a bit.

Do you think it is a good idea to have more women involved with fishing? Be honest- Hell Yes, just so long as they follow their fish and I can still sure profanity.

Click the image to open in full size.

What is the craziest fishing thing that has ever happened while being on the water? Taking my mom fishing after she hadn't fished in Salt water for more than 14 years and watching her nail a 48" Hallie on her first drop, that was crazy. Saw a 500lb Black Sea Bass in the hull of a 25' Mexican panga, that was crazy. Been shocked twice my electric eels while beach fishing, that was crazy. Hearing the wiz of bullets over your head because you happened on some drug deal was crazy, that happened in Florida.

Has there ever been a life turning experience happen to you while being on the water? Or has something just scared the hell out of you while being on the water? I have almost drowned a few times while surfing & diving , to the point at which you think you can breathe water. It scares the shit out of you when you really see your life flash before your eyes like that. When I was 10 we took a 3 day beating in 12-15' seas on an 80'+ boat North of La Paz. That boat was getting airborne every other wave & rolling 90 degs..that's when I started to realize the ocean deserved nothing but respect.

If you won 5 million $$$ how would you spend it?
Fish and surf the world over.

Have you ever wanted to try for a World Record Fish? What fish would that be? Line class?
WSB, I think it would have to be over 60lbs on 6lb, that's a tuff one to beat.

Who would be your favorite cabana girl? My old lady, Ashley

What do you want to catch this season? It would be nice to see some quality local YTF show up again later in the season & I'm still looking to break the 50lb mark on the WSB.

If there is one question you can ask any Member of Bloodydecks, who would you ask and what would the question be?
I'd like to ask David Choate (wahoodad) , what was the hardest battle you have had on a Long Range Trip and what did you learn from it ?

Re: Meet our #84

I love theses reports Shelly!!! It's like drinking a beer with someone and getting to know them, so it's nice to meet you Sage. So many memories comming back, I used skate Oasis and when they closed Del Mar was our spot, and I'm to much of a pussy do dive NorCal for Abalone, but I grew up in Bird Rock and we would dive Abalone every year, sometimes we'd get em on a real low negative tide without even getting in the water!!! So many fond memories.......

Fuck yea, Sage is one of the coolest people I've met from these boards. Next time I'm in SD I would love to fish with you. We should set something up before summer is over.

As far as fishing for macs on the back of the Shogun til 3am with you, Mark and Rick...I don't remember that.
