Iam calling BS.

largest was 49 lbs. 1994, age 11.
bluefin, 6480 and a newell 454.

remember bro, i took a 7 year hiatus for reasons id rather not talk about. and even though ive done a bunch of trips, my longest was only 8 days, and most of those trips were on the excel. its not so much the star that i like so much as the crew. We left the excel and started fishing the star because randy left the excel and bought the star.

Re: Meet #74

Shelly said she encourages updates, so let me throw a few in here

Largest Tuna jumped from a 49 Lb. Bluefin, to this beauty, A 223.6 Lb. Yellowfin:

It might sound stupid, but i had been waiting for that fish ever since i found out about Long Range. I'm just sorry my old man didnt get a chance to be there, but im sure he had something to do with it.

Here are a couple more pics i dont think BD has seen yet, just to make up for the dinks i originally posted:

What is most ridicules thing you have ever seen happen on a boat?

A Kamikaze Yellowfin, weighed out at 250 and only took 2 Heart stopping minutes to land, 1:30 of which was with 3 gaffs in it. That fish taught me a new respect for Nature, and reminded me that we might not actually be the only smart creatures on the planet. That fish had purpose, and had a personality. I was almost sad to see it die, Almost.

Furthest distance ever fished off shore?
Hurricane Bank. And i cant wait to go back again, its in the middle of nowhere, but there is so much life around you feel like your only a couple miles offshore. i half expected to see Cabo on the clear days.

Do you have any advice to future fishermen

Long Range. Any trip, anytime, get on and get involved ANY way you can. There is nothing in this life that compares to Long Range fishing. Its like a combination of your favorite vacation, summer camp, and the best times you ever have with your friends, All in one awesome cluster of days. The fact that there is no set parameters for the fishing, it could be exactly the opposite of the last trip you went on, it could be wide open or it could be Helmet, but its all about being there. Ive been on trips with shitty weather and terrible fishing, trips with glass flat sea's and wide open fishing, and everything in between, but one thing stays constant. From the moment i see the boat, untill the moment i drive away from fishermans landing, i have a smile on my face and absolute peace and harmony in my heart. Not to mention there is nothign quite as relaxing as knowing your cell phone wont be ringing untill your done with the trip, Although it is kinda depressing to turn the damn thing on after a trip and hear "you have, eleventy billion, messages" but hell, its worth it.
There is nothing as beautifull to me as seeing someone understand and share in the passion i have for this sport, and it dosent take much to understand. Most people are hooked after their first trip, i know i was. I'm glad i found Bloodydecks, and finally got a chance to meet people like David, and Brad and Nelz who all share in the same love for Long Range that i have. and we all have one thing in common : when we're not on the boat, we're thinking about being on the boat. and thats what i love about being an LR junkie.

Do you think it is a good ideal to have more women involved with fishing? Seeing as how Long Range seems to be the last bastion of true male bonding (the straight kind), i was kind of against women anglers joining us on these trips. But after this last 17 day, my opinion has changed. A lady joined her husband on the trip, and while not the greatest angler on the trip, she held her own, and she kicked some ass. 3 cows on 3 consecutive baits, unfortunately the last one was lost at color, but the first two were 268 and 240 (i believe) respectively. As gay as this sounds, the Look of pride and love that her husband had on his face ,while she put us all to shame at the rail, was really an afirmation of how much they loved each other. the only time I've seen that look before, was at a wedding, right after the I do's. Not everyone wants a gal like that, but they do exist, and they arent impossible to find. Lord knows it would be nice to have something "purty" sharing a bunk with you instead of another guy.
But i digress.
What really impressed me, was that she knew exactly what she was getting into, she didnt expect the whole atmosphere of the boat to change for her. She knew she was gonna get treated like one of the guys, and she fit right in. it will be a pleasure to fish with her in the future.
I think if a woman knows what she is getting into, and just becomes another angler as opposed to trying to change the whole scene, there is NO reason why she shouldnt be there. Shelly you seem to pull that off pretty well. congrats to you.

With all of the fishing boards around now- I am sure you have met more fishermen than you would have without the boards. What has been the most memorable experience in dealing with another fisherman from the internet?

well, i think the Katana incident will be the hardest to forget, but as for memories I'm proud to have, it would have to be either that Noah's charter last September where no one caugth anything, but still had a great time shooting the shit and hanging out all day, talking about goats and such. Or. Fishing with TurboBob on this last trip. He was one hell of a roomate and one hell of a great fisherman, not to mention he brings fun and good times with him where ever he goes.
I dont know though, i had all kinds of great memories with other BD'ers, hopefully they will keep me sane next year when I'm stuck in Dallas and cant make all the events.

If you won 5 million $$$ how would you spend it?

Buy a decent house in Point Loma, cash, no mortgage. Throw the rest in savings / the stock market and persue a career in Long Range. Also take people (who otherwise couldnt afford to go) on Long Range trips for next to nothing. Its an experiance i wish we could all afford, and i try to do my best to help people out. With 5 Million, i could take a lot of people fishing.

What would your "DREAM BOAT" be?

Easy, the Royal Star. I'm lucky enough to be able to fish on it. Hopefully someday in the not too distant future i'll be able to build an LR boat. Its been a little dream of mine ever since i was a kid. Here's to hoping.

If you could live any life style any where – what would it be

This one. I'm not a millionaire or a celebrity, but im thankfull everyday for the gifts i have recieved, the friends i have made, and the ability to fish as much as i do. I wouldnt trade lives with anyone at this point, and I'm proud to say never will.

Thanks for reading fella's, i hope i get to share the rail with all of you guys in the Future.

Re: Meet #74

Hey George I worked on the Dolphin for many, many summers (7 or 8) in High school and college. I remember the very first day Tony ever drove the boat. RIP. We probably crossed paths at one time or another.
