Went to fish the big bay today. My son and I launched from SI 'bout 8am. Caught several spotties off of the helipad. The boy was stoked, he's getting his first baitcaster wired.
After awhile,he wants to go look for calicos. Ok lets go over to the jetty. So we motor over to the 3rd pole in and cast plastics on the submerged jetty there. It was not happening . I was still throwin' and did not notice that he had casted out and just layed down, letting the drift pull his plastic along. We were getting within 30' or so of the jetty. I told him to bring it in, time to move. His line found the prop. We're drifting towards the jetty.
I have no P/T, so I raise the motor and reach down to untangle the line. What I DIDN'T DO was latch the motor in the up position. So I leaned over the transom, put my hand on the Doelfin to brace myself. The motor lowered itself back down from my weight being on it and FAAADOOOP in the water I went.
So I ended up drowning my cel phone , credit card size digi-camera, wallet, car alarm fob, lighter and a pack of smokes! I usually put all this shit on the dash, but for some stupid reason today I didn't.
We laughed our asses off. I would've paid to see the look on my son's face when dad summersaulted off the stern!
BTW the only thing that survived besides the wallet and lighter was the alarm fob after drying it out and a new battery. What a fuckin' day!
