Like Japanese Americans in WWII, I think having muslims on our side could be very beneficial. I just think if you've got one who's:
-ready to deploy
-has gotten bad performance reviews
-gotten into arguements with fellow soldiers about the war
-probably has voiced his unwillingness to deploy
probably shoulda been on someone's "radar". |
I do agree that there seemed to be some warning signs that should have been noticed.
I'm off on a tangent now:
There was a shooting in May in Baghdad by a US service member who killed 5 comrades. He wasn't muslim, he was a christian yet people don't go screaming that it was because of christianity that he killed people.
Bad people are part of every religion but for some to try to paint the entire religion as wrong because of the actions of a select few is totally wrong.
We interned thousands of japanese during the second world war and made them scapegoats, yet we did not do the same for german americans or italian americans. Why not? It was easier to scapegoat them because they looked different.
All we're seeing now is muslims being scapegoated due to their religion or the way they look. Hell sikhs were attacked as being muslims because they wore a turbin. They are not even in the same religion yet because they were different they were lumped in by racists and bigots.
The point being is that we have a history of creating scapegoats in our culture whether we like to believe it or not. The irish, italians germans, chinese, japanese, mexicans, etc. have all been part of this. The scapegoat flavor of the month right now is muslims. Hopefully people can actually look past prejudices. There are hundreds of thousands of muslims who are proud americans and there are also those who fight in our military for our freedoms. Don't lump those that are good in with one bad apple.
