I was listening to that last night. It was the Great Escape. I don't think they were 3/4 of a mile off of the beach. It was a little further than that.

I thought 13 and younger you had to wear a life jacket all the time...

So glad all are okay and that kid certainly seems to have his shit together but "stuck life jackets"? that should NEVER EVER EVER happen! did I say NEVER? Make sure your life jackets are easily accessable and that they can NEVER get stuck. Check your safty gear guys!

The life jacket thing is kind of strange considering it was a charter boat out of Helgren's and being inspected. Don't charter boats have to have an annual Coast Guard inspection for licensing as a charter boat?

i worked on the great escape for bob. i talked to him last night and he told me that everything happened so fast that the only thing they really had time to do was release the life rafts.....good thing was it was a crew trip and most everyone on the boat had many hours at sea.....by the way they were about 6 miles of the beach not 3/4 as reported......glad everyone made it home safe. let this be a reminder that no matter how long you have been on the ocean it is a dangerous place and if you are not afraid of it you shouldnt be out there.

That boat's the old Laura J out of Helgren's. North County Times quoted the Harbor Police saying all had life jackets on. I lean more towards what the kid said.
