I have a 5 year old in school along with a 5 month pregnant wife. My wife and daughter are for sure getting it. I cant until my son is born and I am fine with that, as Spike said I would rather give my shot up to a kid or pregnant mother any day. Quick question and if anyone has an answer it would help, my daughter has never gotten the regular flu shot before will she need this before she gets the H1N1 shot? Of course we will also talk to her doctor about this.
Thanks guys

Just for the record though, I dont think it's insane in the slightest and quite the opposite. My doctor may have the best interest in my child, but truth be known about this disease is that the vast majority of doctors know very little about this. That being said, there seem to be a golden few that do know about it, and that is my hope here...... to sift through opinions and make my own. I have already collected enough solid info to make my decision on getting this shot for me, my wife & 8 year old..... i'm 100% for it..... my 2 year old on the other hand, well that's a whole nother story which scares me big time with her condition. All the solid info which has now come out about Mastocytosis has been through the internet..... matter of fact this is where many of the doctors have been getting their info as well.
This has NOTHING to do with manning up dude, this is entirely about the safety of my children! And as for the teeth thing, where do you think i ended up getting the most solid info from? Right here, and the place I went, the service I received, and the price I paid was awesome!! I have ZERO regrets whatsoever for that post...... that ended up being the most solid info ever, with no regrets in the slightest!
The unknown fisherman | Mike, asking about your teeth is one thing, when it comes to the health of your children posting on BD for information is a pretty bad idea.
You really have no idea who is on the other end giving you the info.
It sounds like your young one may already have a compromised immune system due to her skin condition.
Go to your pediatrician and ask them. If you aren't satisfied ask to see a specialist.
Your kids lives are way too important to be leaving your decision to members of a fishing website.

The Clinic in Oceanside just denied a vaccine to a BD members wife who is 2 months pregnant, told her to come back with proof and they would be glad to help her. This thing is getting and has been tight. She is going home to get "proof".

I've tried twice this morning to get through to Scripps Rancho Bernardo, and I was on hold almost 30 minutes each time before I gave up. The recording says that they're only giving it to high risk people. So, even if it's a child, as long as they don't have any underlying conditions, they can't get it yet, at least not there......

I just got back from getting it for my 8 year old (as well as the standard flu shot). The H1N1 was free, and the other flu shot was $10.00. They are giving priority to 3 and under though, as they go thru the line and ask if any child who is inline to receive the H1N1 is under 3..... they also are giving priority to pregnant mothers, and these will be gauranteed a shot before they run out that day.
They only had the shots where I went and not the Nasal spray.
Also, any child under 9 receiving the H1N1 shot will also need to get a booster in about a month (a second shot).
I say do this Sean.... I've done my bit of homework, and this is nothing to mess with. Now I just have to keep digging to find out more about my 2 year olds condition...... that's the one that worries me badly right now Quote:

I know you mean well (as well as Stan) but I highly disagree bro!
The thing you fail to realize is the rarity of my daughters disease. The fact is many parents with Masto (for short) are teaching the doctors about it.
I am fully aware that I may not know how legit the other person who may be giving me info is..... and that's something I will have to decide for myself. But many times people will include their phone number or give me some other info to help in my decision as to whether they are somewhat credible or not.
Trust me, using the internet to gather info on this (and many other things) is not a bad idea at all! I cant even begin to tell you how many parents of Masto kids have received the most current and best info on their childs disease by doing just what I am here, and the vast majority with Masto kids have found out far more in this way than most doctors they seek.
Like I said though, there is the possibility that there might be a doctor viewing on this site that may be very up to date on Mastocytosis, or they may be a doctor reading this who wishes to share this to another doctor who in turn may have knowledge on this.
No answer is going to be solid or perfect, and I am already fully aware that with any of these flu shots (even with my 8 year old), there is the very real (although slight) possibility of some adverse reaction. As slim as I know it may be though, my posting about my daughter with Masto, and trying to possibly dig up some info from someone is this dads way of reaching out and trying to gather as much limited info as I can....... and like I said before, this place has come through huge for me time and time again.
My thinking is that it would be stupid to NOT seek out more info from this site and im standing solid on that.

Also the address for the Oceanside clinic is
104 S. Barnes St.
Oceanside, CA 92054

I spoke to them and they said to call before you come down to make sure they have enough for the day.
Good luck to everyone wether you choose to get the shot or not.

My wifes mom almost died from the reaction from it.She ended up in the hospital for almost week.It did not look good there for a day or two,I would never get one.To each his own though. My daughters best friend has it right now and she has been in our house multiple times,I am not worried at all about it.She is 13 and got over it in about three days or so.

The situation with my daughter is that she is highly susceptible to allergic reactions to many things. Eggs don't seem to be a problem, but just to give you an idea about this disease, you can check this little piece my wife made up about our daughter Miley and the disease she has.
The picture on the left in the link was taken shorty after she had a tiny piece of chocolate and had a reaction. With her condition she has red marks covering much of her body, and any rubbing, too much heat, insect bites, certain foods, or a number of other things can trigger a bad reaction where she will welt up, and in a extreme case it can become life threatening which thankfully has never happened and hopefully never does. http://www.halibutclassic.com/sitebu...iles/masto.pdf
Debi, assuming your boys are under 25, you can get them the shot right now.... it was pretty easy for me this morning and only took about an hour.
