My wife and I just had to make a tough decision to vaccinate our 10 month old. We ended up vaccinating for regular flu and swine flu. We as adults may be able to tolerate being sick and overcoming the swine flu, but children, its a totally different ball game.

We have not even seen the peak of the flu season, and its spreading fast. Not to scare people, but its here. Since I'm in various ER's throughout N. County due to work, the ER waiting room is filled with potential swine flu cases. Speaking to an ER nurse, she said she sees it everyday. I asked her the question if to vaccinate. She would not based on the fact that she's exposed to it everyday and has not been sick. She believes she's built an immunity to it.

We all know that kids are petri dishes. I could not gamble this. Despite with the whole autism thing in infants. Yes its a tough decision, but factor in that if your child gets sick, be prepared to take at least a week off of work. I've seen parents out of work for a week or longer to monitor their children. I personally respect your decision to or not to vaccinate. Best wishes and hope this swine flu thing passes.

Thumbs up

Mike... I have my views on this. But to ask a medical proffessional to give his or her opinions on a public forum is insane.

I've seen you do this before.. with your teeth. Dude, man up and make a decision. As far as you kids, talk with her Pedi. YOUR doctor has the best interest for your child, and has the Most uptodate History on her.

Please stop trying to set up a Malpractice case because you feel needy.

Sorry dude... nothing personal, just thge facts after spending my life in the medical field.

Mike, I will throw this out to our medical staff tomorrow and will get back to you asap.

Normally I prefer not to get into these types of threads, but I just felt obligated to pass on information after the OC N1H1 summit Wed.

I appreciate that Stan (seriously) but it's my decision and I am totally good with it.

Just for the record though, I dont think it's insane in the slightest and quite the opposite. My doctor may have the best interest in my child, but truth be known about this disease is that the vast majority of doctors know very little about this. That being said, there seem to be a golden few that do know about it, and that is my hope here...... to sift through opinions and make my own. I have already collected enough solid info to make my decision on getting this shot for me, my wife & 8 year old..... i'm 100% for it..... my 2 year old on the other hand, well that's a whole nother story which scares me big time with her condition. All the solid info which has now come out about Mastocytosis has been through the internet..... matter of fact this is where many of the doctors have been getting their info as well.

This has NOTHING to do with manning up dude, this is entirely about the safety of my children! And as for the teeth thing, where do you think i ended up getting the most solid info from? Right here, and the place I went, the service I received, and the price I paid was awesome!! I have ZERO regrets whatsoever for that post...... that ended up being the most solid info ever, with no regrets in the slightest!

Two of my grandkids (Harlie 4 and Austin 10) had the flu and tested positive for H1N1. They were two days apart. Their highest fevers were 101. The local phamacies were out of "tamaflu" for kids, but a right aide offered to make a "suspension" on the spot. The Swine flu lasted approximately 3 days in both cases. I'm not sure if or what the "tamaflu" did, but the kids just seemed to have normal flu symptoms. Both kids are doing great now. Good luck to all on the decision to vaccinate.

As adults, my wife and I do plan on getting both flu shots if we are able.

I wish that I saw this thread a few days ago. On Monday, many kids got sent home from the school right down the street from our house, which is thought, and ended up being H1N1.
We heard a neighbor city San Juan school sent home 50 kids, and a few people out my wifes work came down with it. I began to panic a bit. Monday mid morning I left work, hauled ass down to SD, because the OC does not have the vaccine. I left work at 9am and got back home at 5pm, I tried three places and stood in line for 3 hours. Many places we tried had the vaccine for 2 years and older, my daughter is 22 months and I was in fear she would not get it. Calling the clinics was not working, I would die on hold for 40 plus minutes. I had to seek these places out, finally in Escondido I found the propper shot, not nassil injection for my little squirt. I waited in line with her by myslef for three hours, very frustrating thing to do. I got her the shot, they would not give one to me which I was fine with, I'd rather see it go to pregnant mothers or someone sick any way. I hope I made the right decession to get the shot for my daughter, and I hope all BD members have healthy families.

OC does have the vaccine, as do most counties.
HCA

Local H1N1

Kaiser is also giving them out.

Not the Shot, some have the nassil vaccine, Saturday it will be more available in OC as opposed to SD and LA county.

Ok, I am going to try and get this for my 8 year old now. Is the nasal suppose to be as effective as the shot? Should I opt for one over the other?

If I recall correctly, I think I was told to go with the shot, although I honestly don't know if it really makes a difference.

I'm hoping to leave here in a few minutes if I can get these little terds ready in time.

The nassil spray is a live virus, either are fine (from what I heard), but the live virus could end up infecting someone with a low immune system.
