Name: Rob Espinosa Age: 45 Vessel: Viking 48' PESCAHOLIC Location: Yorba Linda Job:UG Utilities Bio: Sending deadbeat boat ho's to Hawaii, one JACKoff at a time... | Earthlink, as with all ADSL providers (other than the actual phone or cable company who serves your area), buys service from your residential or business phone provider (aka, RBOC's-Regional Bell Operating Company) and simply re-sales it to you. In other words, if SBC is your local phone company, Earthlink buys the dsl service wholesale from the carrier( such as Verizon/SBC/etc), at the carriers cost, then re-sales the dsl service to you. This was the subject of a heated FCC battle which was recently overturned and is why the RBOC's have decided to proceed with the rebuild projects. My experience is that currently, Cable modem is faster………but that is soon to change. I'm in the business of building the main infrastructure for the "Information Superhighway", we build main line Fiber Optic facilities for both the phone and cable companies. Currently, we are working on the latest technology...FTTP, or, Fiber To The Premise. Since the emergence of the cable modem, phone companies have been steadily losing market share to cable companies, they finally decided to replace ALL of their phone lines with Fiber Optics...yes ALL of them!!! It will take several years, Verizon’s project (dubbed FTTP) has budgeted in excess of $30 billion and SBC’s project (dubbed Project Lightspeed) has a budget of $4-6 billion. Verizon claims that ultimately, their system will provide speeds up to 75MPS; while SBC claims that their network will provide speeds in excess of 15MPS. As I understand, the services will be tiered based upon preferred speed, and the customer will pay accordingly. Both systems will provide Internet Access, Video (just like CATV) and regular telephone service. I trust the cable companies will be re-upgrading their recently upgraded systems in the near future...more work-that breaks my heart. BTW If you have experience in the utility construction industry such as UG and aerial construction and Fiber Optics splicing, we're hiring. Specifically, I’m looking for experienced HDD/Backhoe Operators, Class A drivers, Crew Leaders, Mechanics, Fleet Manager, Yard dawg, etc. Main office is in Anaheim and we work all over the state, but most of the work is in the ingrown empire and will be for quite some time. PM me for more info. Rob
