(as of Feb. 26...1 spot left)
I have run very successful calico bass skiff trips for the last four years to the Geronimo Island / Sacramento Reef area. During these trips, I have personally caught a lifetime best (10 lbs., 10 oz), and SIX other calicos over 9 lbs., plus have seen a 10 lbs., 6 oz and an 11 lbs., 5 oz (caught by young Matt Lozano).
The last two years, these trips have been on the Pacific Dawn out of Fisherman's Landing in San Diego. I charter these trips in the fall to take advantage of the normally better weather conditions and warmer water for this area. In addition, we have an outstanding, eager captain in Pat Cavanaugh, who runs a wonderful operation.
LEAVES SUNDAY, OCT. 7 - RETURNS FRIDAY, OCT. 12
I have ONE spot left for this October's trip, which leaves early Sunday morning Oct. 7 and returns Friday afternoon, Oct. 12. This trip is limited to NINE anglers, although we will go with eight at a bit higher price. We will have three skiffs on board. It is arranged so that we fish four full days (and at night if you'd like). By the way, meals were spectacular, including fresh lobster chowder among many gourmet meals.
SAME TIME AS LAST YEAR THAT PRODUCED 65 WHITE SEABASS
We are leaving EXACTLY at the same time in October that produced the following results:
(
AllCoast SportFishing - Viewing topic #43642 - Epic Pacific Dawn Skiff Trip: 65 WSB, Huge Calicos !)
including a staggering 65 white seabass for us last year, mostly all on the plastics and iron since we didn't bring much bait...just leftovers from Pat's previous trip.
Last year's trip was so successful, it was also written up in Western Outdoor News, the Orange County Register (Dave Strege) and Mexfish.com.
The difference this year, though, is that we will actually be taking a FULL LOAD of bait. Why is this exciting? Because last year we took only a few scoops and got that amazing catch!
And, as a boat improvement, and to show his keen interest in these trips, Pat has added a BOOM on to the top of his wheelhouse so he can take the skiffs in and out of the water much faster and keep them off the deck, making for lots of extra deck space.
ULTRA LTD. LOAD COST IS $1,750 ALL INCLUSIVE
The cost of this year's trip is $1,750 per angler for nine anglers...all inclusive...permits, fuel, bait, meals, etc. (not including tip or drinks). Note: as chartermaster, I pay the same price for my spot as the rest of the charter members.
If you like fishing the plastics and iron (or bait) and are interested in catching TROPHY size calico bass, I have never seen an area produce like this. If you are at all interested, I will need an $800 deposit made out to Pacific Dawn Sportfishing to hold your spot. First come, first serve.
