Smile FISHIN FOOL - GOES DEEP DEEP DEEP

Boat: Fishin Fool
31' Contender FA
Capt.: Lucian (Me)
Crew: Bill Bogue, Rick Williams, Stan Gold, Danny Dale

We left Taylors Landing, 4am, headed to the deep, crossing the fingers, we saw some bait, put out our spread, picked up a jack, then a mahi...

Didn't see anything worth staying for so we picked back up and ran to the far side of the Norfolk.... There's a DEEP spot out there we've been doing well on and I've always wanted to DEEP drop, so we stopped and dropped... 4 minutes to the bottom... 128 -170 fathoms (768 - 1020 Feet Deep)..... DEEP....... Rick cranks back up and catches a strange looking red critter... Fish ID, it was an Ocean Perch http://www.ocean.udel.edu/mas/seafood/perch.html... We cranked up a few before deciding it was too much work at that depth...

Put the trolling gear back out and started south... Small weed line appears and up come the mahi... Bailing time... We managed around 10 chickens....

We decided to run south and look for some Tiles... Get info from Darren and head to the designated area... Lines in and Fish On.... We were catching Tiles & Sea Bass as fast as we could drop and crank, steady action until my boxes were FULL TO THE TOP... I still had 3 boxes and a tuna bag, I could have filled, but HOW MANY FISH DO WE REALLY NEED...

Thanks Darren...

Back to the dock, cleaned the boat and one of the largest assortment of rods and reels I've ever had and used at one time, then it was fish cleaning time... Reminded me of when I was a kid cleaning spot & croaker, but these fish were nice size and we had a BUTT LOAD... THANK YOU ELECTRIC KNIFE....

I want to say I had the best crew available and everyone worked HARD and well together...

Hope to get back out again soon....... Gonna try something different, I know of another spot in the canyon, I've been looking at... Another Deep Hole, then off to other things...

Tonight it's Hot Oil and Fillets, Spoon Bread and Corn on the Cob... MMGOOD..

East and West Coast Tilefish are of the same family but are different species.

Re: FISHIN FOOL - GOES DEEP DEEP DEEP

Caught them both and they are not the same . Whitefish seem to like structure/kelpbeds/hard bottoms and don't burrow in the mud . Whitefish eat good but don't taste the same the meat is a finer grain . Whitefish are milder not crabby/lobstery . Pacific Sheepshead (Togs Cousin) tast more like Tiles/Togs then Whitefish . I would think that they would be closer to the saltwater perches . They remind me of Halfmoons/Bankperch . I have caught them mixed in with both .
