| Puerto vallarta with Danny Gomez
My wife and I just got back from a much needed vacation to P.V. I fished with Danny Gomez of Dhamar Sportfishing in very tropical conditions on Sept. 30th. After 2 weeks of steady rain Banderas Bay is filled with debris. I thought for sure there would be many dorado under the assorted large tree trunks, branches and coconuts, but the water was 91 degrees F. Our destination was Roca Corbateno with 20 good caballitos in the live well. When we arrived at the rock the sea was filled with small skipjacks and palomettas. We tried catching skippies on small hoochies with planers, but with only limited sucess. It seemedlike forever slowtrolling 2 caballitos and 2 skippies with zero sucess. After many hours of this we switched to chunk bait to try on those rock dwelling hard fighting Pargo. We had 2 good good hits but, could not land one. After some time doing this late in the afternoon, I remembered I had 2 pink Butterfly jigs. We decided around 4pm to switch tactics completely, switching to lighter line and floro, slow trolling the live bait. Finally we had a knockdown and landed a 30lb. Bigeye Trevally and immediately started using the pink jigs with sucess on Toros and the Bigeye Trevallys not or targeted species, but the action we had not had all day. I got a good on my Shimano Curado 330E spooled with 65lb. Braid and a Pete Maina Muskie rod and landed a 30lb. Trevally which was a lot of fun on lighter outfit. Near the end of my fight with the Trevally, we got a good hit on the Avet set-up. I landed the one fish and switched to the other hooked fish which felt like our prefered species. After about 10 minutes I landed the 80lb. Yellowfin at 5pm. I landed it on an Avet JX-6, 6' Penn rod, 8/0 Eagle claw hook and 80lb. floro. It took us about an hour and a half to get to hte marina of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle with Danny proudly flying the 1 tuna flag. We were the only boat out of 4 at the Rock that caught anything This was all due to Danny's work ethic and desire to please his clients. We stayed out later than anyone just so I could a good fish. I would highly recommend Danny Gomez of Dhamar Sportfishing to anyone. In my opinion he is the best in Puerto Vallarta!
