After watching no tuna come back on the boats for a few days I decided that I was not about to waste $1200 chasing nothing. So I headed up to Punta Mita and booked a panga for 4 hours through the cooperative in town. They charge a flat rate of $50/hour. We went back the next morning and "Coyote" took us out for wfo dorado. We caught them trolling, on live bait, and chasing birds. We kept six for the freezer. On the way in we stopped for a couple of roosterfish. $250 w/tip and a cooler full of fillets. Can't beat it when the big boys aren't playing.
The pangas near the marina will charge the same rate but then you have to drive the boat for an hour to fish. The dorado were caught 15 minutes from Punta Mita.

Congrats Mike, the inshore fishery near Punta Mita is very under rated, as most concentrate on the big game fishing offshore. Not only is it under rated, its usually very consistent and you can always find something biting inshore. Congrats on making the right decision.

Yes Mikey, that's the spot. There is a little office at the end of Punta Mita where they do the arrangements for you "cooperativa". You can also go snorkeling, whale watching, or even go further offshore. If you want to go further offshore I would go with one of the bigger boats.
Hey Manny, I didn't see your boat in the marina, have you moved? Last year I went down there everyday and watched you bring in loads of tuna.

We fished Mita while everyone was out fishing the tourney on Saturday. It was nice going just around the corner of the bay to start fishing for rooster and dodo. Unfortunately the water was green and dirty that day so we couldnt see that far down but fishing 30 feet off shore next to jurassic park looking jungle on shore was pretty cool. Very good value for getting into rooster, dodo and aj if they are around.

Mike,
Does the cooperative have any tackle to rent or is it strictly BYO? I've got a wedding party of about 12/16 guys that I'm trying put on the water for a day.
Thanks.

most of the guys there have their own gear, some nice, some not so nice, you need to do your homework I'd recommend Lora if you can get him, through info@primetimeadv.com
There is also Capt Kurt (frijolitos), and can probably pick you up in Mita as well. With that large of a party you will need at least 3 to 4 boats, so I am sure you can keep everyone there happy
You really dont need to bring any of your gear though, most of the good captains there will have their own and its included in the price.

Their prices include all the tackle and bait. Good quality gear, no rental. I like to bring my favorite lightweight reel just because they normally don't have light stuff.
I don't believe that Kurt or Lora go through the cooperative, but I could be wrong.
