LAX to PV via Alaska Air

What a joke. Just went to alaskaair.com and to my surprise, they were advertising a web special from LAX to PVR for $149 each way + taxes when traveling between July 21 and Aug 10. Now this special was posted yesterday, June 30 and I checked the price for almost all of the dates between that range and found NO flight that was priced at $149 + taxes or in most cases, nothing that was remotely close. They have a right to price the flights as they see fit but come on, don't advertise it if you are not truely going to offer it.

Also fitting that I just saw BD picked Alaska Air up as a advertiser, as they were just on the front page

We were frowning at the ticket prices as well a month ago. Checked one day and Mexicana had direct round trip from LAX for 190 + Tax through Orbitz. Checked the airline's site and it was cheeper through Orbitz. Stoked we aren't paying through the nose for our return in the fall. Good luck

The airfare is all over the place. They jacking it up whenever they can, based on their yield management. I paid $400 for Sept. trip and $700 for Oct.

Try Yapta! to track fares with email notifications. If you bought a tix and the price drops subsequently, you'll know and you can ask Alaska for a fare adjustment credit.

I booked three round trip tickets back in January on Delta to PV in mid October for a total of $946.74. I felt real lucky to book so early but last week I heard Delta was droping alot of its Mexico destinations.

Yes, I got Delta in Aug for $260 rt. Fortunately, they did not drop the pv route.

In all fairness, Alaska does state that the tickets are limited and when they run out, that is it. They were, however, a bit late in taking down the special offer. It is gone today.

I fly Alaska in Sept to PV and I got to use my mileage + $75 for a round trip ticket. It is 30K miles + $75.

FWIW, mexicana changed my flight from direct - LA to PV to - get this: LA to Cabo, to Mexico city, to PV after I booked it a couple years ago...needless to say, those are two totally different flights. Went from 3 hours to 14 hours....

I had it through ORBITZ, and it was a PAIN in the ass to get them to help me out with changing it...I was set up on a different carrier for the ride home, so I could not cancel just the one leg....I ended up cancelling the whole thing, taking it in the shorts forthe first ticket because they don't refund, and getting a new ticket...so beware of ORBITZ is the take home message.

I got alaska direct this year for $320 for the end of september.

Jim, LAX is cheaper but the cost in gas and parking eats up most of the savings. There is also the added time to get to and from LAX back to SD. I'm looking at SD to PV for $550.

When did you buy to get the $320 for end of Sep?

Dennis,

Well, when I looked last week, it was Alaska. I think the price was $541, but I just looked and didn't see any Alaska flights.

The flight I saw had a single stop at LA, but total travel time was only ~5 and 6 hours, so to me that was still worth it.

but it appears to be gone.

Nate

I'm tellin ya, we need a BD travel agent. I don't know when these deals go down and would like to be up on when they are ripe. Is the travel agent dead?
